Do you get many trick or treaters in Demopolis? There were none at my house last year in Pennington. I know that safety issues have become a concern for many parents. In Butler and Gilbertown they do something that is really neat. I am not exactly sure how it's done in Gilbertown, so I will only talk about what is done in Butler. Local churches and businesses started the idea of Trunk or Treat several years ago. Store owners and church groups will carry their vehicle to the courthouse. They have their trunks filled with all kinds of candy and goodies for the kids. Most of the people dress up in costumes to hand out the candy. The kids just walk around the block at the court house and go from car to car to get their goodies. The parents seem to like this idea because of the safety issues. There are still trick or treaters who go through the various neighborhoods. I know that the trunk or treat is a huge success.
This idea might be something to do in Demopolis, if it is not being done already. What do you think about it?

Re: Trick or Treating?
We've had as many as 150 or so Tricks or Treaters and as few as 60 something, depending on the day of the week that Halloween falls on. My daughter stopped T & T'ng several years ago (said she was too old) but still dresses up and hands out the candy. Love Halloween and the whole Fall season!

I love fall also. Was hoping it would be a bit cooler now though. Yea we do about the same here Shells. Depends on what day of the week it is. We have done truck a treat at church. We use to do big fall festivals. They were awesome. And very successful!

We do it the same way here in Gilbertown Roo. I love it. It is so much easier to just park your car and walk from trunk to trunk than having to stop and let the kids out and different houses. It is alot safer too. Halloween just isn't the same as when I was a kid. You could go to any house and they would be participating, alot of people don't really get into it much anymore. I know alot of people don't really believe in it for religion purposes. I don't have a problem w/ that, but I think it is ok to take your kids to get candy as long as they aren't dressed up as something supporting the devil or something like that. JMO! My son just started kindergarten and his teacher doesn't believe in celebrating Halloween, which is ok, but I just don't think it is fair that all the other kindergarteners are going to be having parties while my childs class will be working. Is there any harm and having cupcakes and drinks? She could call it a fall festival if she did not want to say Halloween party. Ok I am going to quit rambling now!

I totally agree with you! Poor kids. They should get cupcakes and drinks too. What's the harm in having cupcakes decorated with pumpkins (not jackolanterns) or something with fall leaves or even cupcakes with candy corn? If she doesn't believe in it there are many other ways to allow the children to celebrate without bringing in Halloween themes. I think you parents should have a talk with her or just show up on party day with your fall cupcakes.
Resolution #1 - This year I vow to stop mailing drier lint to the kid who dumped me in 2nd grade ~~ Really...I'm over it.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

I haven't had a trick-or-treater for years. I end up having to eat all the candy. But at least I don't have to clean up the tissue paper like some neighbors.

I can understand that some people have a "religious" belief that prevents them from celebrating Halloween but we are talking about 6 y/o kids. These are not the people that will gather around a pentagram with the ring of salt and begin their satanic worship. As a parent, I have dealt with the prejudice of other parents to certain holidays particularly Halloween. I am in agreement you showing up with cupcakes and drinks and celebrating fall. Unfortunately, in our society as a whole, we want to hurry children through their childhood and make them adults before they should be. Kindergarteners, I don't think are attempting to conjure up some evil spirit at Halloween. They are simply celebrating a holiday. Can't you remember what it was like when you were a child at Halloween? I can remember actually getting and being able to eat homemade popcorn balls. SO, stand up for the kids and make their Halloween something to remember!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Trunk or treat is wonderfull!! We do that here in Bham. The kids love it and it is safer than knocking on someones door. Which I know sounds awful but we took my young uns out and we live in a huge apartment complex....Trick or treat heaven...so one would think and were met with rudeness, and no one home, and people against it. This was awful!!! We left and took kids to have ice cream and bought them candy. The schools cant do it anymore becuase of the religious factor, but Fall celebrations usually occur. It would be lovely for everyone to park on the square and let the little ones...and some bigger ones LPL and Ranger....trick or treat!!!! I'd Come down!!!
