I have been reading all of the post regarding the coroners race. I agree some of it may be getting a little out of hand. But you know what, people are entitled to their own opinion. they are also entitled to vote for whoever they think is the best person for the job. I'd like to address a few issues people seem to be concerned or not concerned about.
I am running for the job of coroner because I like to help people. Never in a person's life does someone need help more than when faced with the death of a loved one, expected or not. This is a critical time and the citizens of Marengo County deserve the most professional and competent person for the job. My experiences and training with the U.S. Coast Guard, Tombigbee EMS, and hospice have provided me the ability to perform the duties of coroner as well as the compassion needed at such a difficult time. My years of experience as a paramedic have given me the medical knowledge to perform the coroner's duties. My experience working for hospice has given me the compassion that it takes to perform the coroner's duties. I also have the ability to work with members of law enforcement, DA's Office, EMS, and all healthcare agencies within the county on a professional level.
I am currently employed at Bryan Whitfield Memorial Hospital as the Community Education Manager for the Behavioral Health Program. Before I qualified for this election, I had numerous conversations with the hospital administrator concerning the coroner's duties. He is well aware of the possibility of me having to answer a call during working hours. He is also well aware that any time I miss for coroner duties will be made up as needed.
I started this thread to make the people of D-Live aware of why I am running for Coroner of Marengo County. I have every intention of running a clean campaign. If I can't win this election based on my qualifications and merit, then so be it. Thanks for your support and remember to vote.
If anyone has any questions, opposing or not, please feel free to ask.
Only 5 weeks until November 7!
Chris and I feel it is time to stop focusing on what lengths Stuart has gone to, to win this election and start focusing on why we need a new coroner! Chris IS the most qualified person for this position and will do this job in the most professional and compassionate way!
Remember to vote Tuesday, November 7, 2006!

With the election only five weeks away I wanted to say a couple of things. First of all, I want to say thanks to all of you who have supported me over the last few months. I got into this race because I think I can do a good job and serve the people of Marengo County well as Coroner. Nobody wants to win this election more than I do, but I want to do it the right way. I want to win this election because I am the most qualified person for the job. I have tried to stay out of the mud-slinging, name calling, etc.. If I don't win this election based on qualifications then I can live with that, I want have any regrets when it's all said and done. In order for me to do this I am going to be knocking on doors every afternoon during the week and all day on the weekends from now until November 7th. However, I do need your help. Although I am going to knock on a lot of doors, it will be impossible for me to see every single person in Marengo County. I am asking everyone to help me spread the word throughout the county to vote Chris Petrey for Marengo County Coroner on election day. There has been enough mud-slinging over the last couple of month's and I think it's time to take this race to a new level, a positive one. Thank you for your continued support and remember to vote.
Chris Petrey for Marengo County Coroner
Who knows what the future holds!

Chris, I just want to say again...I think you are so honorable for keeping out of the mudslinging and name calling. I know after this letter surfaced, it had to be hard, not only because Eatmon got so personal, but because he went as far as to put Ashley in the letter when this race doesn't even concern her (that would have INFURIATED me beyond belief!). I think you have definitely shown DLive who the bigger man is--I wish all of Demopolis could see what we do! You definitely have my vote, and I will definitely help spread the word! If you're in my neighborhood, stop by and I'll fix you a snack or something to drink! I'll probably be the one with the "Vote for Petry" sign nailed to a tree cause the wire holder for my sign kept breaking and it finally just fell apart the other day, so if the sign's going back up, that's the only way!! Good luck, Chris!
