Does anyone have any information about the gas leak on Highway 80 east this morning? They had traffic blocked and re-routed on the east-bound side. Did everything turn out okay?
I actually was a "lucky" one who waited in traffic long enough to not have to be re-routed through Arcola Road. It was a nasty smell!!! I am wondering if anyone was coming into town (west on 80) and if they had the road blocked with emergency vehicles from that direction, re-routing traffic?
The truth is that natural gas has no smell at all. The distributors mix "odorant" in with the gas so that leaks can be detected.
A friend who works at Dixie Pipeline tells me that you could put a timble full of "odorant" on the steps of city hall and be able to smell it at the hospital. I don't know if that is true or not. Maybe someone on here knows for sure.

Unless the gas was leaking where the trucks fill up, then you wouldn't be able to smell it. They don't put the odorant into the gas until it goes into the trucks for delivery.......I think. Just ask Ranger about the specifics of the gas, he knows all about that kind of stuff.
