Veterans Day Observance Events
The following events are planned to observe Veterans Day 2006:

November 1: Veterans Benefits Seminar and Health Fair. (See separtate thread for more information)

November 3. Pre-game flag raising at the DHS footbal game. Alabama and United States flags presented to the Demopolis National Guard by the VFW, which was used by the unit in Kuwait and Iraq, will be flown over Memorial Stadium during this game. Veterans will be recognized. Small U.S. Flags will be geven to elementary school children (about grades 1-4).

November 9: DHS JROTC will have a special Veterans Day program. Contact SFC Mike Black for schedule. He NEEDS veterans to attend this program. They have a great program but few vets show up. It is a downer for the kids to put a lot of work into the program and have poor participation.

November 10: The flags that was used at the November 3 football game will be raised at the Veterans Monument at the Marengo County Courthouse. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Spencer of Demopolis, parents of Michael Spencer who served in Kuwait and Iraq with the Demopolis NG Unit, will represent the families of the unimembers at this 8:00am event. They will raise the very flags that their son and the members of the unit served under during their tour. Members of Marengo Memorial VFW Post 5377 and Marengo County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 31 will sponsor this event. These flags will fly at the monument on November 10-12. They will then be retired and placed on display at the VFW Post and on special occasions at other locations. They will be on display during our November 1 program at the Demopolis Civic Center.

November 11: VFW Post 5377 will be conducting it's Veterans Day Buddy Poppy Campaign. This yearly fundraiser will have members at various locations in the county collecting funds. ALL money collected STAYS in the area to support veterans in need and programs which benefits veterans and family members.

Gulf War (Desert Storm) and Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom) veterans are needed fo participate in the pregame ceremony at this weeks DHS game this Friday night. Their names will be announced and they will post on the 50 yard line. PM me for more information.

I remember the Poppy drives from when I was younger. It seems that the older I get the less I see of the drives. I have never seen them in Choctaw County.

I remember this event from when I was in grade school.
My husband and I would like for our little boy to participate in this fundraiser. Have you any idea where in Linden you will have Veterans collecting funds? Thanks in advance for any info. you might be able to provide.
