Veterans Hospital Christmas Support

Each Christmas our VFW State Headquarters has a program that supports our hospitalized veterans at Alabama VA Hospitals, State Veterans Nursing Homes and those in private nirsing homes. The VFW in Marengo county supports this program in assisting the veterans in Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center, where most of local veterans are treated, and those in our nursing homes. We cannot do this without help from the community. It may seem early to be concerned with this but the season will be upon us sooner than we expect and it takes a while to put the program together. The suggested items to put in the gift bags or boxes are personal care items, 100-150 pieces jigsaw puzzles, large print books, socks, slippers, hankerchiefs, etc. Put yourself in their place and ask what you would like to have or need if you were in the hospital for an extended period of time. Each gift bag or box will be different so please donate items in the item and quantity that you can. More information on this later such as where the collection point will be located.

Re: Veterans Hospital Christmas Support

As a Tuscaloosa VA employee that serves veterans, I would like to express sincere thanks to Sarge for creating this thread and remind everyone that a large number of veterans live at the TVAMC and simply, have nothing!

In addition, many of these veterans are homeless and have no financial or family support. These "gifts" are such a tremendous help to them, both materially and emotionally. These men and women feel isolated, lonely and are self-condemning due to their present situation.

Please open your hearts to provide a little pleasure and support to our deserving veterans this holiday season.

May God bless all of our soldiers and veterans.
