This is a bit late, but I figured some may not know.

The latest version of the Microsoft Browser Internet Explorer has been officially released and is ready for download. It features many new enhancements such as Tabbed Browsing, Phishing protection, security updates, etc. If you currently use IE6, this should interest you. If you use Firefox, your not missing anything.

Click here for more information and links to download. (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx)

Please note, the install has built in WGA which will prevent it from installing on Windows XP machines that have a pirated or generated serial number.

Also, if you have Automatic Updates turned on, it will eventually find its way on to your PC anyway.

Of course, this isn't replacing my primary browser anytime soon.

For those interested in the "Alternative" browser, click here to download. (http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-2.0rc3&os=win&lang=en-US)

I have IE7 and Firefox installed, and I use Firefox for 99.9% of my browsing. IE7 looks pretty, the preview windows when multiple tabs is slick, but I hate the way the favorites are done. Firefox has the quick Browser change button, so you can reload a page in IE from within Firefox if a page has any problems.

If you use IE6 solely, I would recommend upgrading--just so you can see what Firefox users have enjoyed for awhile now.

I had downloaded and used IE 7 for a short time. There are some websites out there which are not compatible with IE 7. One in particular is the CVS website. I attempted to renew my prescriptions on the CVS website on IE 7. The website popped up a message telling me the website was not compatible with IE 7.

If you do a lot of ordering or internet shopping, you may experience problems with IE 7.

I rolled back to IE 6. Think I'll stay there till Windows Vista rolls out.

Extensions. Goto https://addons.mozilla.org/?application=firefox to get started. I roll with the basics. Some you need to view things like flash, videos, etc. If you get somewhere and can't see something on a site, just do a search for firefox and the problem. You can customize the top as well. Here's a screenshot of my browser:

I dropped the built in google search in favor of the google bar.

Dunno, but IE 6 doesn't either.

I think that is one of the new features of IE7. IE6 didnt do it but Mozilla does. Just about every other site has thier logo showing up in IE7 but I can't see Carl....

With FireFox it just pulls the image from a certain directory. IE6 was capable, but required some coding. We'll have to look at IE7 to see how to configure it (though if everyone used FireFox the world would be a happier place ;) )

I've got a list of customers that have had issues with IE7, although still in Beta at the time.

Microsoft is giving me a reason to go open source every time they release an update. Of course, I make money every time MS screws up, so...

I downloaded IE7 last night onto my laptop, and I have to say that I (so far) am pretty impressed with it. There are a few things that I would like to see changed about it like the favorites, but so far I like it. Also, I didn't read much on it, but is IE7 not compatible with Win 2000 Pro? I have that on my desktop in my bedroom. My laptop is running XP Pro.

Probably won't run on 2000. They are running their business on a forced upgrade path. I can see it, but anyone that has run an older OS on a newer system can tell you the systems get 200% faster and the software gets 300% slower.

Right now Microsoft has too much control over the tech industry. Everyone just goes with the flow...

Try Firefox on 2000, it'll work just fine.

It wont install on 2K. Windows XP SP2 is required.

Also, the Favicon is notoriously spotty with IE. Its a really weird deal that I have no solid solution for. I have the code there for it, every other browser handles it fine, but getting IE to show a Web Icon relies more on luck than anything I think. Another reason (as if we needed more) to switch to a browser that does it right.

I like 2000. Can you upgrade from 2000 to XP since 2000 is based on NT?

I know with the 2000 Server and 2003 Server you can't "upgrade" to MS XP Pro, just wondering if you could do it with 2000.

I'm about to have to clear my laptop's hdd soon because it's running MS Win 2003 Server pro. I'm just going to switch to Vista, and if my copy of Vista doesn't act right, then I'm going to an XP Pro / Suse dual boot.

Curious, why are you using a Server OS for your desktop?

And to answer your question, you CAN upgrade from 2000 to XP Pro, but, your much better off backing up your data and starting from a fresh install.

You can't upgrade server to XP as they are different product lines. As Brian said, you'd be better off with a clean install.

As for dual boot, I dual boot XP Pro and Suse 10.0 for a while on my laptop. Suse 10.0 was the first Linux distro I got working with my wireless card. Ubuntu 6.06 seems to work better, less issues (samba and nautilus problems on Suse), only one CD vs 5 for Suse and takes up less space on your drive.

The main reason I have Server on my laptop is that I wanted to learn some things about the OS. I have a lot more critical files on my desktop than laptop, so I just installed server 03 dual booted with windows 98. But I'm looking to change that ASAP.

Thanks for suggestion Oldman. I'll have to try out Ubuntu 6.06 or whatever the newest version is when I get around to doing this. I have 3 jobs that have been given to me (computer work) in the past 3 days... .so I've got a lot on my plate right now. It'll probably be around x-mas time before I get to do anythign with my laptop.

Click START, go to SETTINGS, then CONTROL PANEL, then open ADD & REMOVE PROGRAMS. In the ADD & REMOVE PORGRAMS menu, there should be an option to remove the MS Internet Explorer 7 upgrade.

That's how I did it.
