I know most of the time all we do is talk about bad service but Monday I had one fo my best experience shopping that I have ever had and it was here in Demopolis. My son and I both needed new shoes so we went by the Athlete's Foot and I was amazed by the service we receieved. I run about two times a week and needed a new shoe. The lady in there put me on the machine in there to look at my foot (this was the 1st time I have ever had this done, it was very cool) She also, measured my foot which I have not had done since I was a kid. She then showed my three different shoes to try on, they all felt good. I went with the Asics and love it. On top of the service they had a 20% off sale the lady said was on till the end of the month.

It is so great to hear that there are still people out there that actually do their jobs and understand what customer service is. Sometimes I get to the point that I would rather just buy something off the internet so I don't have to deal with rudeness. Thanks for posting about your positive experiance!
Happy Thanksgiving!

After the 5th pair, I believe, at Athelete's Foot you get the next pair 50% off. I get my kid's tennis shoes there because of the great service and convenience of being close to home.

I worked there while I was attending college and really enjoyed working for the Wagners. The lady that probably helped you was Lavon. She started work the same time I did there(when the store opened) and is now the store manager. She is a great person and a very hard worker and customer service has always been her number one concern! I know the owners of the store would love to hear your positive feedback, they also own the stores in Tuscaloosa, Northport, Selma, and Jasper.

Tell me about the machine. Is it the one you run on and they can tell you what kind of shoe you need. Like a stablizing shoe? Because I have only heard of Birmingham having a shoe store that can do that. If so I will have to go to Demop instead of Bham.

I believe that the machine can be a big help. However, I wouldn't base my entire selection on what it recommends. You should go with what feels most comfortable whether it is a motion control, stability, etc. shoe. If the most comfortable shoe doesn't have enough arch support, just buy some inserts to go in the shoe. I wish that there was a hard and fast rule but it's mostly trial and error. (Hopefully more trial than error!) Just talk to other runners and check the articles in Runner's World. There are also several resources online.
I just started running a little less than 2 years ago and completed my first marathon this past Sunday in Chicago. I live in B'ham and I believe the store that you're talking about in Bham is the TrakShak. Their shoes are pretty much in line with the big stores but their gear is a little pricier. However, I like the people that run/own the store and they do alot to support the local running community.

I have had many dealings with the good folks at Ath;ete's Foot and Lavon is a gem. She remembers little things about a customer that are very important when it comes to a shoe purchase as well. Thumbs up to them always!

When I did it at the Tuscaloosa store years ago it was a mat that you walked across. It measured different things about your foot and would even give you a print out.

Once again I am from the old school. When I got out of college I managed a few sporting good stores in the Atlanta area. We did not have a machine back then, it would have been helpful. The main concern was pronation, supernation and the distance running. This was about the time Nike starting putting air in the front of the shoe as well as the back. Asics with the gel and Reebok with their honey comb compression. Anyway, sold many of running shoes in my day.
