I have WinX64 (don't hit the back button yet!!!). i was installing like 60 megs worth of windows updates (mostly security updates and ****), and in the middle of the install, i was sent a blue screen of death with a bunch of blahblah and it said in big letters BAD_POOL_CALLER. i reset my comp, but now it stops when it is supposed to show the windows logo while booting windows and i just get a black screen. no logo or moving line or anything, just a black screen, and it never moves past that. i've tried safemode and such but i can't fix it. help!!!!!!!

Try booting off the install disk. You may be able to repair the attempted upgrade.

I take it you have an AMD 64bit cpu. If possible, you may want to seriously consider going with a standard 32Bit XP install instead. Any gains in performace at this point are going to be at the cost of stability and compatibility. If a Standard XP is not an option, try hitting F8 before windows starts to boot, and selecting "Last Know Good Configuration". If you had System Restore turned on, you can try that to go back before the dreaded updates.

If all else fails.. a repair reinstall.

i already tried the f8 goodies. i'll try the repair install this weekend or sometime. if i plug the hard drive into another computer, can i use that computer to undo the update?

EDIT: that computer would have to be X64 too, wouldnt it

yeah, it'd have to be X64 also if you want to boot a 64 bit OS on that system...
