this week the ncaa announced that they would be adding a 5th BCS bowl game to be played at one of the 4 previous "big" bowl sites...this will have no effect on the national championship and will do nothing to solve the problem of having joint-chamionships like last years that disappoint all the fans...if you ask me it is just the BCS trying to take some of the heat off of their tushs without actually doing anything...i know it will allow some of the smaller schools to have a chance to make a little money but thats all it does, make money...it doesnt solve any problems...what do you all think about this move?
The BCS is just BS with crap in the middle. The only way they can fix it is to add a "championship" game from the winner of the top 2 bowl games. A playoff system would be better, but would take away from the bowls. Adding a 5th game is for money only.

lol...good point with the BS with crap in the middle dave...thats pretty good...i agree that a playoff system would be the best way to go but it would take away all the tradition and feeling of the bowl games and that is the worst thing that could happen...so they are really in a bind either way but in my opinion if they would just stop with the "point" system and just look at the stats to pick the best two teams we wouldnt have a problem...it just really ticks me off that their plan to "fix" this problem does more to put money in their pockets than actually fix the problem...if you ask me they are just taking advantage of the fans...its totally bootleg

Adding another game to the BCS is probably just going to make added confusion.

The only solution to this problem is a playoff tournament. Take the top team out of each conference and have a championship tournament. This will allow some of the "cinderella teams" a chance to win a national championship. Teams like those from the MAC comference, who have been beating the crap out of the larger conferences during the regular season lately, really don't have a chance according to the points system because their strength of schedule isn't strong enough. The only reason I see they don't want to get away from the bowl games is the money that is generated going to the NCAA through the corperate sponsorship for the bowl games. They pay big bucks to have their name appear in the title, such as the Nokia Sugar Bowl.
I agree that another BCS bowl will allow smaller schools to put a little more money in their pockets, but it won't solve the problem of having a split national championship at the end of the year.
In all other major college sports the schools making the tournament still pocket a pretty penny, maybe not as much as a bowl game, but still it is something. And the deeper they go in the tournament, the more money they bring home.
I think it is just what college football is missing. It would make things a lot more exciting come the end of the season and make the Conference Championship mean a lot more. I think it sucks that Oklahoma played LSU for the title after getting pounded by Kansas State in the conference championship. Points or no points they didn't deserve to be there.
College football is one of the only sports without a playoff system of some sort. The people in charge need to look more towards the teams than the universities.Plus,I think it would be great because then we'd have more game at the first of the year.More game should equal more money, shouldn't it?

bingo...college football is the only sport with no playoffs...we all say its about saving the bowls...but none of the other sports have bowls...march madness makes more money for the schools than anything else and its a tournament...and we learned this year that its not hard to make it into the tournament...uab and alabama st. proved that to us...it may be hard to win it but not to make it in and make some cash...i dont know about the conference champs being the only ones to go though...that isnt exactly fair either...but there is really no way to make it fair to everyone...all im saying is that they should at least try to please more people than oklahoma and ohio st. fans...you know, the "dynasty" schools...thats just ridiculus

Just as a principle of probability, playoffs would lead to a longer season and more injuries. That's one reason we have the bowl system.

I understand that argument but they have a playoff in division 1aa and division 2.
It would also get some of the players that may be nfl-bound used to a longer season.

But the boys in the lower divisions are not putting an NFL career on the line by risking injuries like some of these players will be.
Also, though there is a longer season in the NFL, they are getting PAID for it. If a rookie signs a five year contract, then blows out his knee in the first game in the NFL, then he still gets some money. If a kid blows out his knee in a longer playoff season, he will never see that contract.

Football is a tough game. You take a risk of injury on every down you play. Maybe they could shorten the regular season. There is no reason they need to play 12, 13, and some teams play 14 regular season games. This would make room for the playoffs.
You might get hurt on the first play in the first game of the season,on the other hand you could play an entire career and not get a scratch. When it's your time it's your time.Like B.C. said before-that's the price you pay to play the game.

i doubt the threat of injury has anything to do with there not being playoffs...seriously doubt it...why arent they scared basketball, baseball, or any other players might get hurt? and basketball is a contact sport if you are thinking its not...how did we get to talking about injury being a reason anyway? that just doesnt make sense to me...but i dont guess you can never really tell with these big CEOs in charge
