Oh how we danced and we swallowed the nights for it was all ripe for dreaming
Oh how we danced away all of the lights we've always been out of our minds

Bill Withers also sang "Lean On Me," which was covered by Club Nouveau when the movie of the same title was released in 1987. Morgan Freeman--of Charleston, Mississippi who co-owns Ground Zero Blues Club and Middido Restaurant in Clarksdale--played Joe Clark, the baseball bat-wielding principal of Eastside High in New Jersey. (Classic line: "They used to call me Crazy Joe, now they can call me Batman.")

I hope that is the right spelling for the restaurant.
West Virginia native Bill Withers joined the L.A. music scene in the late 60s after a stint in the Navy. In 1970 he was signed to the Sussex music label and hit the ground running with his first album, Just As I Am, and its instantly classic acoustic ballad, “Ain’t No Sunshine.” Withers’ understated, rootsy style was a perfect contrast to where popular music was going at the time, from pre-disco dance music to glam rock. His second release, 1972’s Still Bill, became a career disc, with top hits “Use Me” and “Lean On Me,” arguably one of the greatest songs of the past half century.
In June 2005, around the time of his 67th birthday, Withers was selected for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Bill Withers was born July 4, 1938, the youngest of 6 children. It was an uneventful childbirth. On November 6, 1949, Bill was suspended from school for calling a classmate a "poopyhead". He has a small birthmark behind his left ear, and a superfluous third nipple. His favorite color is yellow, and his turn-ons include long walks on the beach, hot pecan pie and hippie chicks.
