Okay, electronic geniuses...I need some help. I have a digital camera (HP) and it normally holds 103 pictures with the SD card I have in there. All of a sudden it has decided that it will only hold 11 pictures. What is going on with that? Does the SD card go bad? Would it help to buy a new one & put in there? Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated!

My camera has a setting that you can set for internal memory or memory card or both. I would check that with the cameras book and see if thats the problem.

You may possibly (like summ_1_two) said, have it set to use internal memory -- or there is the case that you have been using an inferior camera setting and you've now got it bumped up to a higher quality, which would reduce the number of pics you can hold on your SD card.

Check your storage location, and check your resolution or quality setting and see if anything has been changed.

If the camera is still storing pics to the digital card, it is unlikely it has gone bad. If it had gone bad, it is an all or nothing type deal.

How big is the card you are currently using in your camera?

I believe mmcd's suggestion that you have possibly changed your camera settings to take a higher resolution pic is most likely your culprit.

If you wanna bring your camera and stop by the house on your way home one day I will be more than happy to take a look at it for you to more accurately answer your question.

thinking again *

if it went from 103 to 11... then i'd bet most of my money that it's been changed to internal memory.... if it's not on internal memory, then your SD card is probably bad, and it's just going straight to internal memory anyway.

Do you have a SD card reader? my computer has one built in for all types of memory cards that i just pop the card in & it pops up as a volume in My Computer.

Look in the menu of your camera. There should be a selection that allows you to select picture size by mega-pixels. My camera lists 1.7MP, 3.1MP, 4.0MP & 5.4MP & so forth. Choose a smaller number & that will allow your camera to hold more pictures. I doubt your SD card is defective. Search your functions BEFORE you buy a new card.

a lot of good advice. I'm betting it swapped to internal memory as well.

Has the battery gone completely dead, had to set the clock lately? Drop it?
