Microsoft will be releasing the new Vista Operating System at midnight tonight. The upgrade software will start at $99. It will be available online but most will be waiting in line at stores because they want the packaging that it comes in. It took five years to complete and to iron out the bugs. Will it be worth the purchase? New computers will soon have this system already uploaded at purchase.

If your computer is older than a couple of years (or in many cases even a year), be prepared for Vista to tell you in a nice way that you computer sucks and you need to upgrade. Primarily, your video card. I installed it in a dual boot config on my work Computer for testing. I have a 2.8Ghz HT P4 with 512MB ram. It uses an integrated Intel 910GL Graphics express chip for video. My "Vista Experience" rating was 1.0. Why? Because I don't have 128MB of dedicated Video memory, along with DX9c and Pixel Shader 2.0 support. Of course, if you don't care about Aero (the new user interface thats touted), then you might be ok.
"The House of the Venerable and Inscrutable Colonel was what they called it when they were speaking Chinese. Venerable because of his goatee, white as the dogwood blossom, a badge of unimpeachable credibility in Confucian eyes. Inscrutable because he has gone to his grave without divulging the Secret of the Eleven Herbs and Spices."

Integrated Video with only 512 of ram rates a 1 on XP.
Personally, I'm not going to upgrade for awhile. I have some older apps that I'm not sure would run well on Vista. If IE7 is any indication, I probably won't switch until it's absolutely necessary.
