While I was working on a job out of town I was working with this mexican and he told me this story.
The small town he came from was very poor but there was this one family in town who was very wealthy.The man after years of matrimonial bliss was blessed with the birth of a son.
A prouder papa there never was.Even as a young boy all could tell he was going to be special.At five years old he was already playing the flute with grace,for his fifth birthday his father asked him what he wanted and he replied
"Dad all I want is a little red ball."
His father told him if thats what you want then that is what you shall have.
The boy continued to exel in everything he did and proved to have a knack for sports .He took his town to the little legue national champions for soccer.For his tenth birthday his father asked again "Son what do you want for your birthday?"
Again the boy replied"I want a little red ball."
The father said"If that is what you want that is what you shall have."
The boy grew up when to college where he studied vetinary medicine.Upon finishing college his father asked "Son on this special day what can I get you?"
"dad alll I want is a little red ball."
The father told him money was no object any car he wanted would be his."No dad all I want is a little red ball."
"If that is what you want then that is what you shall have."
After college the son went off to war where he saved countless men in battle and met his bride to be.When he returned the wedding was planned.Onthe day of the wedding the father took the son aside and told him of the honor and pride that he had brought to the family."Son on this most magnificient day I shall buy you and your bride the house of your dreams."
"No dad all I want today is two little red balls."
His father had long ago stopped trying to figure out the little red ball thing so he said"If that is what you want then that is what you shall have."
One year later a grand son was born.That night when every one was at the hospital the father asked the son "should I buy him a little red ball also?"
"Dad that would make me the happiest man in thw world"the son said with a tear in his eye.
That night the son left the hospital and was in a very bad car accident.The father was rushed to the hospital that contained his grandson and his now dying son.
In the hospital room he kneeled over his son and told him not to worrry that his family would be taken care of.
"Son before you leave can I ask you a question,what was up with all those little re balls through the years?"
The son with the last remains of energy looked into his father's eyes smiled and died.
