Feb. 14...a day for hearts!

Well as almost everyone here who has ever spoken with me at least once knows..I was blessed with a "heart baby" for 7 wonderful years. She has since went back to Heaven to be the princess. In her life I learned so much about life and love but also about the heart. There are so many kids out there who are battling with a CHD (Congenital Heart Defect). These kids are amazing and the parents are remarkable. The amount of knowledge you have to learn in order to simply care for your child is overwhelming. Simple tasks such as feedings become ordeals it's a constant learning experience. As people learned of my daughter's illness I heard all sorts of comments...such as;"well my uncle's grandmothers second cousins boyfriend had a murmur and he's just fine. I also heard "well at least she doesn't have cancer because that would suck"! CHD's are so much more than a simple hole in your heart or a murmur. Children die all the time of complicated CHD's. I've felt a calling for sometime to speak out more about CHD's but have not because it brings up so many memories that are hard to deal with, but I now know that God didn't give me Amelia so I could keep her story in a little box and not help anyone. So considering that tomorrow is "The day for hearts" I would like for all my friends to check out this website and learn some interesting facts and maybe even give a donation. I am in no way taking trying to take away from St Judes or anyone with cancer...I support the American Cancer Society. I am just trying to enlighten you with some more wonderful causes that help save our children!

You know as long as I have known about CHD, I have never really thought about Feb. 14 as being a day for hearts, other than the "love" kind. You think about how you love your friends and family, and how you celebrate Valentine's Day, but I have never given thought about celebrating it with a donation.

We lost our nephew (on my husband's side) on May 9, 2006. He had just turned 19 on April 13th. He was born with only 3 chambers to his heart. He had many, many surgeries. We were blessed to have him for 19 years. He was an amazing person and he touched so many lives. Through him and also his death, many people have come to know Jesus. If Ricky were alive today, he would tell you that he would do it all over again if it meant that only one might be saved.
