Peacock / Peafowl
Two peacocks showed up where I worked several months ago. I brought them home and the female ended up getting killed in the road. The male is still around and spends all day leaving "droppings" on my back porch. I am looking for another female to bring home to encourage him to roost in the trees. The cheapest I've found one so far is $40. I would like one as close to free as possible. If you know of anyone who might possibly give a peahen away, please let me know. Thanks.

My Sister had two peacocks once and they roosted in a tree outside their bed room window, kept them awake most all night and my Bro-in-law would shoot at them with the pellet gun. Shot and killed one on an accident. They must be noisy too.

Sometimes they sound like a screaming/dying woman.

My grandparents believed that finding or displaying of a peacock feather was bad luck. Whomever carried one caused bad luck on a family member. As a child I would stare at the beautiful long feathers but was afraid to touch them.

Wow, they have a really bad rap. The one we have does not make a lot of noise. Even when we had the two, they were very quiet. I've never heard that the feathers were bad luck. I think Ricky, the male we have, is gorgeous, and I'd like to keep him. He just needs a friend!

We had peacocks/hens on our place when I was growing up. They loved to roost in a holly tree in our pasture. I would go all over our place picking up the feathers when the '***** molted. I collected quite a few of them but my mom hated them. I missed them one day and accused my mom of throwing them away. She said that she didn't but I didn't believe her. About two weeks after that, I ran into a lady in York and she said that my brother had sold her the most beautiful peacock feathers for a quarter a piece! He still denies although it has been over 30 years.
