Re: Alabama Legislature: Graft, Corruption, and Bribery
Totally agree. Post Secondary Education is the most corrupt agency in Alabama state government. These things have been going on for years and not until The Birmingham News started writing about the problems with Roy Johnson have they come to light. The list on scandals this year include bribery, nepotism, financial aid fraud at Bishop State, the problems with the Alabama Fire College and Shelton State, and now the employment of legislators.
Of course, the state school board dealing with the problem of legislators on the payroll is the pot calling the kettle black because many board members have relative the work in the two year system. Don't expect much help from the Attorney General's office Troy King removed himself because he asked former Chancellor Roy Johnson to get a relative a job in the system.
Gov Riley appointed Thomas Corts to clean up the mess but board members ran him off. I don't think the gov, ethics commission or college presidents had a problem with any of this until it came out in the Sunday paper.

Maybe the resident legal (or leagle) advisors might know why this would be under federal jurisdiction.
You know, jowlar...it seems that you and I are the only ones concerned about this. However,....something isn't fair...
A state employee steals $7,800, and the Feds take him to court.
One politician steals $98,000, and nobody cares.

One of these days the people of Louisiana are going to get good government - and they aren't going to like it. -- "The Kingfish" Huey Long
I can't find who said it, but one of my favorite 'dirty politician' quotes goes something like:
"Any man who can't steal enough to live comfortably in just one term has no business getting re-elected!"
Maybe I need to up my meds, but I feel kinda comforted to see that our "down home" corruption is "transparent" to a degree, when it could be (and may be) a whole lot worse....*cough*cough*Halliburton*cough*cough* (link)

Having lived in Lousyana, Governor/Senator Huey Long WILL BE absolutely right IF such a thing ever happens

Of most politicians that I've followed over the years...I believe that this was indeed their creed.

You don't think that was "transparent"? Maybe you need new glasses, Ron, or some syrup for that cough. However, Halliburton has insured a number of things that I'd care not to mention in the open.
