Ok...I consider myself fairly competent when it comes to PC's as I've been able to fix or repair most problems in the past w/ little trouble, but this is another story.

I recently purchased a DELL laptop computer, a DELL All-in-One (AIO) printer, & a wireless printer adapter so we could use the PC in other rooms of the house. The PC came pre-loaded w/ Windows Home Vista Premium edition. The package works fine except the scanning portion of the printer.

First, the wireless adapter did not work, so I hooked it directly to the PC via the enclosed USB cable. We can print just fine, but the only way to scan a picture is to open Microsoft Paint & scan it. You CANNOT use the AIO printer option to scan a picture. If you try, you get an error message.

I have DELL on call for 30 days & the rep. told me that the enclosed software for the printer must not contain the updated drivers to run w/ Vista. I downloaded the correct drivers from the DELL website & transferred them to my laptop via a USB memory key.

The scanner still will not scan from anywhere but the MS Paint program. I'm tempted to call DELL to request an on-site technician to fix the problem, but was wondering if the computer guru's of D'Live could help? I will be glad to pay someone to come to my house to fix the problem, but I'm now frustrated & not sure I can fix the problem myself.

One more thing...this PC is NOT hooked to the internet for troubleshooting help. I purchased it for my son & we are limiting his web access. I have web access on my computer in another room.

If anyone is interested in trying to help, please PM me & we'll set something up. Thanks for any help.

Did you uninstall the printer before installing the new drivers?

No I did not. Great point. I will try that next. Keep the ideas coming.

Thanks Dave

Why don't you call fellow RCBA member, Drinking Buddy. He's helped me before when we lived there. He even got on the chat with Dell one time and got me working.
