Home Movies

I have a analog High 8 camcorder which I purchased about 5 years ago. It has been a good camera, but I am worried about the format. I have taken several of my movies and copied them over to VHS, but I think that its days are numbered as well. Has anyone else had this situation arise? What did you do about it? Is their a way to connect a analog camera to my computer so that the movies can be downloaded? I would love to be able to store the movies to a web site like Photobucket. How do you store your precious home movies?

Re: Home Movies

They make several devices that can connect your camera to your PC. The one I have is a little overkill because it's a DVR as well, but it has the A/V connections on the front of it and all I do is connect the A/V cable from my camera to the front of it and it's connected to my PC with a USB cable. It came with software called "DVD studio"..I think that's the name. The software allows me to check what kind of device I want to capture video from and I select video camera, then hit play on the camera and the video comes up on my screen. From there I can hit the record button on the screen and it captures it and allows me to burn it to DVD or CD as a VCD. This thing I have is called WinTV PVR made by Haupaggee (sp?). Picked it up at Circuit City for about $100. Well worth it.

If guns kill people, then pencils are to blame for all of my spelling errors.

Re: Home Movies

I have always used a Firewire cable and then a movie maker software. If you don't want to purchase a movie maker software, you can use Windows Movie Maker -- it comes standard in Windows XP and on my computer is found under accessories. If you use a FireWare cable, you might have to purchase the FireWire card unless your computer came with one.

I recommend taking your camera to a place like Circuit City or Best Buy and talking to them.

I highly recommend transferring as many of your home movies to your computer as you can. My Mom has done that with several of our old home movies. My kids love watching Mommy as little girl.

A true friend laughs at your stories even when they're not so good, and sympathizes with your troubles even when they're not so bad.
