Corporal Punishment In School Under Attack

Paddling in school is under attack, and Michaela Curtis is leading the way. Curtis is upset over allegations that Westside Elementary, and in particular Jennifer Lay, paddled her youngest son while in school for "picking his nose". According to Curtis and her son, he was paddled three times on one day, and eight times the following day.(I'm assuming that means 3 and 8 licks, not separate paddlings.) After the second day of punishment, she noticed "deep bruising" on her son's bottom area. After seeing the areas, she took her son to the hospital and reported them to the police and Human Resources, who both in turn didn't take any action towards the school. Curtis said she just wants to do away with the Teacher Protection Act, or Title 16, which exempt's school employees from Title 26, or the Alabama Child Protection act.

There is a new abortion law in Alabama. The "Woman's Right To Know Act" basically reqires a 24 hour waiting period from the time a woman requests an abortion until the time it's actually performed. During that time, the physician is required to discuss with the woman the risks of abortion and alternatives to doing the procedure. Pro-Lifers are happy with the bill, giving women time to learn of information they might not normally get. Pro-choice advocates are upset, saying women in rural areas such as Demopolis who have to travel a ways will now have to spend more money to get their problems dealt with. This sounds very much the same as the gun laws that require a waiting period before obtaining a purchased handgun. Alabama doesn't have this law, but many states do.

Finally, lets support our Tigers as they travel to Fayette County this Friday to face their toughest opponent to date this year. Start preparing yourselves for the showdown on the 25th, when Dallas County Hornets come to town. I guarantee you the DC faithfull will be packing it in, so lets show everyone what it is to support a football team. If you can't make the game, listen to it right here on .biz radio.
