The new Best Western is now open. I believe it opened Friday(maybe Thursday). I had a friend and her parents in town this weekend and they stayed there and it was hands down the best hotel experience they have had in Demopolis. The rooms were clean(of course, they were new), they staff was friendly, and the complimentary breakfast was great. They usually don't eat the breakfast offered by the hotels but this was exceptional. They had no problems at all with the new Best Western. They usually stay at either the Holiday Inn Express or the Econo Lodge. They have had an insect problem with the Holiday Inn Express and they really like the Econo Lodge except the sheets won't stay on the bed. If you have friends in town, let them know that the Best Western is the place to stay.

I'm glad we have another place in town to offer as suggestions to our out-of-town guests....
I was hoping one of Raz's bull dozers would have gotten out of control and run thru...the motel next to Windham's....lol
How does it stay in business???
Best Western has always been on my list of places to stay...when I travel.....Gulf Shore's.....has some amazing ocean views......
Our's has a great view of Guthrie's....lol

I heard it had only 40 units. It appears to be nice from the road. I am sure it is. It just looks awfully big to only have 40 units.

I've heard that the rooms are really spacious. The decor is (from all reports) the best in town. Who owns the new hotel?

Well, after you get through taking the 15 minute tour of Demopolis that is all there is to do. Watch tv. hehehehe Hey I can say that. I lived there for years with nothing to do but get in trouble and even that was hard to do since the whole PD knew who I was.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the owners are Jay Shows, John Wallace, Hugh Overmeyer, Kim Mayton, and I believe there is one more but I can't remember who it is...sorry!

I know the pool is very small infact I think you could spit across it. LOL. But the rooms do look nice.

I guess I didn't realize it had a pool and I thought that would turn visitors away this time of year, so I am glad to know it does, even if it is a small one. I looked on the website to try to get some rate information, but they have not added this location yet. It kept showing me one in Tuscaloosa as the closest one to Demopolis. It was $75 and up for a weeknight! To me, that seems high, but I don't stay in a hotel very often, so I have no real knowledge of that market! Looks nice, but I go for affordable, too!

Yeah, the rooms have flat screens. The decor is nice. There's a small fountain in the lobby. The pool is pretty small and only goes to 5 feet but it's really nice out there, with a shaded area. I know that Jay Shows is one of the owners. I don't know about the others. I didn't ask what they paid for their suite, but it was really nice. They even had a hide-away(fold-out) love seat in their room, for an extra bed.

I took a tour of the Two Rivers Best Western Hotel and Suites this morning. This is by far the best hotel in Demopolis. This far exceeds the Holiday In Express. Each room is equiped with a mini-fridge, microwave oven, coffee brewer, and bar type sink in a nice setting. The rooms are nicely equipped and spacious. The lobby is large and a nice place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or just relaxing from a lone day at work or on the road. For added security there is a registration window in the vestabule so the night clerk can be protected. Late registrants and guests can be screened before they are let in after the front door is locked. These are the contact numbers:
662 Highway 80 West Demopolis, AL 36732

email bwtworivers@bellsouth.net
Reservations 1-888-900-0119
On the business cards Jay Shows is listed as the owner.

I have reservations at the Birmingham Marriott this weekend for two nights at the rate of $100.30 per night INCLUDING all taxes. Does the $109.95 include all taxes? Is that the standard rack rate?

$109.95.......that's about right for a good hotel in summer. We are traveling up north next month & every where we are staying is that much or more...and I can assure you, we are NOT staying at the Ritz.

I would like to give a shout out to the Holiday Inn staff. I have occasion to stay there recently and they have been absolutely wonderful. I found the room to be comfortable and clean. They have just bent over backwards to make me feel welcome.
Kudos to them!

No the $109.95 was per room, per night plus tax... for 2 adults. That was for the standard rate. AAA and Senior's Discount and Miliatry the rate was a little cheaper, but not that much.

If you're wanting to see a new "western" movie, check out the newest Coen brother's flick when it is released. It fared well at Cannes Film Festival and was described by viewers as a "western" with a twist...it is actually set in the 1980's.

I do hope there is truth to the "bug problem" at other hotels.........

We had friends from up north stay at the econo lodge for 2 or 3 days and they gave it high marks. They said the rooms were comfortable, the staff was friendly, & the rates were affordable. but Ive never stayed there

I just want to make clear, I haven't seen an insect in the Holiday Inn. I just hate for one bad remark to reflect on them. Again, they could not have been any better to me.
I am sure the new Best Western is great..but I just really wanted to stick up for the Holiday Inn.
Thank you.

I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear. I never said that there bugs crawling all over the Holiday Inn. There was a small problem but for a personal choice, I choose not to stay there again. I'm sure after that small problem, they notified the right people to correct it. I would hate someone loose business on account of a small comment that i posted. The Econo Lodge is great on just about everything. My friend just had to get up several times to put the sheets back on the bed because they kept sliding off the matress. I just know that there were NO problems or peeves when my friend and I were at the Best Western.

I have heard from several people that the reason for the high prices is to keep it nice and from being overrun with people using it as their place of dwelling (like Days Inn and Windwood Inn, for example). Not sure how factual that is, but it sure sounds logical.
