We have also, and have had no interruptions in service since we got it. The speed isn't nearly as fast as what I had in T-Town on Comcast's cable connection -- but that's obviously understandable. DSL can't compete with Cable speeds... it's just not in the wiring.

I've been hoping for years now that Comcast would set up a franchise in Demopolis. It'd be great for CATV to have some cable competition--we'd all see better service, better prices, and everyone would be better off!

I have no idea HOW mine works....but I use Firenet1 for my ISP. I have a lil box on the eave of my house pointed toward some tower that looks like a cell phone tower. Lil cable runs from lil box into my attic, down the inside of my walls and out directly into the phone connection on the back of my computer. I don't CARE how it works either since it is WAAAAY faster than my old roadrunner cable service I had up here (which was awesomely fast)and it's cheaper too....flat $39.00 per month. I love it! OH, and the owner lives across the street so my customer service rocks too. ;)

No, I haven't tried Westal's wireless. Need to check it out. What about the high speed internet with Dish Network, What are the pro's and con's of that?
Earthlink told me I could get high speed here. I subscribed, sent my money and Bell South canceled the next day. That Bell South guy nearly broke my heart when he called and said the cable was a few feet too far away.

We were using dial-up because in our part of Gallion there is no DSL. We are now using AT&T wireless with a usb aircard. I would highly reccommend it to anyone living in the country that can't get DSL or cable but can get a good signal on an AT&T (formerly Cingular) phone.

I have cable and it works good. I use it because I cut off my phone because all we ever used was our cell phones. It just didnt make any sense to me to have a phone just for the net. Plus it saved me a few bucks also.

Bellsouth DLS Xtreme 6.0 the only way to go! I have Bellsouth DLS lite at the gallery. It's not too bad. For the difference in price I thought it would be a lot slower but it's not slow at all.

I too have wondered about the service with Dish Network. Before we moved two years ago, we used Starband. It was in connection with Dish. When we moved I could not get anyone to come and re-align my Starband dish. So we used that super slow TDS dial up. Finally, TDS got DSL. We were the first residents in Pennington to get hooked up on it, and it is awesome. I pay $29.95 a month and it is super fast - even when there are 4 computers using it in the house. I do miss my Starband tho, because it was the best we have ever had.

I can't get DSL where I live, so Cable is my only option for high speed. When I lived in Wetumpka, I discovered CAble internet and I love it. It is faster than DSL and seems to be more reliable. Surprisingly, even Demoplis CATV has reliable cable internet. I have had no complaints.

Right now I'm running at about 768kps with a half signal. I'm about to order an external antenna that will boost my signal and have me running at 1.5mps. If they ever get the 3G Network in our area it will run at a 3mps. If you buy the card through AT&T's website it is $50.00. Unlimited Access runs about $60.00 a month. Kinda costly but for the rural areas it will be the only way to get high speed through AT&T for a while. Plus if you have a laptop you take it with you anywhere you go. Pretty convenient for anyone on the move.

And by the way, for any of you waiting on AT&T(formerly Bellsouth) to provide your area with DSL. AT&T announced before the merger they would provide DSL service in some way to all of its customers by 2008. This doesn't neccesarily mean through a landline phone. All customers will have access to DSL but it might mean wireless to alot of residencies. It would take alot longer than 2 years for the entire Marengo, Hale, Green, Perry, Dallas and Sumter county areas to have a complete landline DSL service like what is provided in the city limits of a few of the towns in these counties. So to conclude, those of you waiting for DSL through AT&T landline, don't hold your breath it's gonna be a while.

I have bellsouth DSL. I would prefer a wireless connection that I can use anywhere I go. Any suggestions? I live in B'ham but travel to Demop alot. My parents still have dialup. If I want to look something up on the web with my laptop, I just go sit outside the library or in front of the winwood inn to get a connection. I would much prefer getting a connection at my parent's house.

Have you done some bandwidth tests?

http://www.speakeasy.com/speedtest

I tried cellular internet for a bit, best I ever got was 130k.

Cable vs DSL is really dependant on how it is engineered. Typically, they're comparable, and yes, cable can absolutely outpace DSL as far as maximum speeds go. Cable can sustain something like 38Mb for DOCISS 2. Newer DSL hardware can compete, but as far as I know, none of those options are available here.

I am with NetZero dial-up they supposedly have the high speed dial-up Big Joke. I could wash my car and clean my house waiting for mine. LOL I know how you feel. We do have Comcast here and Qwest DSL but I can't afford them so for 9.95 a month I tolerate this. I used to have People PC before this and I had so many problems with them and when ever I called up for help I could never get anyone that Icould understand or they could understand me. Their main office was in the Phillipines and I could never get someone to understand me. That was so frustrating, trying to explain to someone what the problem is and they can't understand you and then when they talk to you , you have to keep saying what, what because you don't understand them. At least with NetZero I can call up and get someone that I can understand. LOL But that still doesn't make the service any better it just makes it easier for me to listen to their excuses. LOL
