From our family to yours, have a safe and trouble free Halloween.
Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 5th. Among the many different races, the big one is for Governor of our great state. The race is basically between incumbent Governor Don Siegelman and Bob Riley. Riley shows a slight lead in the polls, but Siegelman has shown a surge as we close in on election day. Finally after constant ads, attacks, signs, even pre-recorded phone calls, it will be our turn to do the talking and elect someone.
In other news....Their's an interesting little war going on between the Demopolis Times and the Democrat-Reporter. It started very low-key, when McElvy tok over as editor and publisher of the Times. Ole Goodloe noticably started running ads on the back of his paper proclaiming his circulation to be 5 times that of the Times. McElvy had taken the high road, expressing a true desire to show the good side of Demopolis and help our town continue to improve and grow. So last week McElvy finally stepped up and gave good reason for the circulation difference. Basically, the Democrat prints 20% news, 20% advertising, and 60% trash. They can't wait to print up a half page piece on what drug dealer from Demopolis is arrested, or which ones were let go, etc, etc. Anything to bash our town you'll see it on the front page. Anything good for our town, or soem our town is doing well, you'll be lucky to find it on the back page.Unless they are still boasting about themselves there. The Democrat is more or less a "Local Enquirer". People seem to love hearing about arrests, murders, corruption, and seeing color pics of accident victims. Just don't judge the quality of a newspaper by the amount of copies sold.
Finally....The Demopolis Police Dept. as issued a warning for all would-be tricksters on Halloween. Anyone caught trashing yards, throwing eggs, rocks, or any type of projectile will be fined $500.00 and face possible jail time. Also, to remind everyone that destroying mailboxes is a federal offense, so you will goto jail for that. Lets keep it safe and damage free this year.
