View Full Version : Wireless Network Setup Help
I am normally able to figure these things out on my own, but this one is starting to baffle me. I have a DSL connection and a Belkin F5D7231-4 Wireless G Plus Router. My desktop PC is connected directly to the router via a patch cable, and I have no problem connecting through it.
I also have a company laptop with a wireless card running XP. I have had no problem in the past connecting this laptop in various hotels and other wireless areas. Now, though, I can't. I can see my network on the available network list, but when I click connect it just sits there with the status bar saying waiting for network. The connection never establishes.
I have dumbed down the security to nothing to try and make it work. Reset factory defaults, etc... Do any of you DLiver's have a clue how I can fix this thing?

could be your adapter going bad or either you have to reset your ip address.

If you are using the IP address 192.168.1.1, there could be a conflict between the modem and the router regarding IP addresses. Try using 192.168.2.1 on the router setup for your home network instead. I had to do that on my BellSouth DSL connection at home and occasionally have to use it with broadband connections from cable companies.
Hope this helps.
I had a similar problem with my son's computer--would just sit there "connecting". I actually just left and forgot about it. Checked it about an hour later or so and it was connected. Ever since it connects quickly without problems.

Do you have a secure network? Encription enabled on the router?Access the router and get it to assign new keys and re-enter them on your network.Thats probably why you cant see anything on the network. Can you connect with the router bypassed? Can you ping the router from the desktop,or can you ping the router from the wireless laptop?
Sounds like the router has you blocked.

Don't even get me started on the wireless thing, we have 3 laptops and it was miserable trying to get them all on the router. Had to change IP addresses, reload and change the security key, reset the modem, etc... Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!! :(

My Linksys assigns IP adresses.
When I switches from satellite to cable,my ISP IP address changed and I had to change it in the router, the only thing I had to do was change the security keys from the router to my network. I have also 3 wireless laptops and one desktop wired to router. It didnt take 15 minutes to do it.All mine have printer and file sharing, but the desktop has to be running to print wireless.
