I make that statement because that is what all of you are going to be thinking of me when I ask the following question:
When playing SimCity2000 on my laptop, my computer crashes when I add too many trees to my city. I can add anything else and it is fine, but when I start adding trees, it crashes. Also, after it crashes, my city disappears and I am left with a blank piece of land with nothing on it. Does anyone know what is going on?
Oh how we danced and we swallowed the nights for it was all ripe for dreaming
Oh how we danced away all of the lights we've always been out of our minds
Have you updated your video card drivers? Also, save your city prior to attempting to add trees.
It could be an XP issue if that's what you are running--the new Sim City is pretty good.

My laptop is brand new, so I would think the driver's would be fine...especially considering that it's the 2000 version of SimCity I'm playing. This has happened both to my boyfriend's city and mine, even though we saved prior to adding trees.
After so many trees are added, I get a run-time error, the computer freezes, and when I restart, there is nothing but a blank landscape. It doesn't even pull up my city as of the last save.
I've started keeping a "backup city" saved, just in case. Maybe this is just a fluke that they have fixed in the new version.

Have you tried going online to SimCity's website to see if they have a fix or patch to correct this? If not, call their tech support department to see if they can help you figure out the problem.
Obviously Rob does not have the answers you seek.

First things first, what kind of laptop? What video card?
it sounds more like an application error than a driver bug, but laptop drivers are often doctored by the OEM's which causes far more problems than their worth.

but the second mouse gets the cheese.
I am so technologically repressed that I'm not sure what a video card is or even how to find out what type I have.

Stickman, I can tell that you are blessed with an evil mind. When Tequila Cat wins the presidency in 2008, would you like to be a cabinet member?

I'll look up that system shortly and see what type of video it has. Odds are it is an integrated video.
When I say application error I mean the game itself has a flaw or operates incorrectly with some item on the system rather than the system has a problem.
Drivers are what control the devices in the system and tell Windows how to control them. The driver tells Windows what type and speed your modem is, sound card is, video card, etc.
