Sprinkle Memories

We have had an ongoing thread about Franklin's Army and I thought it might be cool to get people to share memories of Coach Sprinkle. He was an awesome teacher and another great influence in my life. I was lucky enough to not only have him for Biology, but he also taught my Training Union class at church for several years.

I fondly remember some of the questions he would ask on his final exams. For example:

How do you kill a giant purple monster?
a. Giant purple monster gun b. Silver bullet
c. Quit Drinking d. Wooden Stake

The anser, of course, is "c", quit drinking.

Anyone else have Sprinkle Memories?

Re: Sprinkle Memories

He was my favorite teacher when I was a senior at Demopolis High. His stories about biting your nails and the worms in your butt still haunt me to this day! I never was a nail biter and after that story he use to tell all the time I never will be! I'll have to sit here and ponder for a moment about some of the stuff he use to say in class.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: Sprinkle Memories

I was fortunate to have him and both of my sons had him for Biology. I dont think there was any greater teacher or person. I always remember his saying that "nothing is impossible, improbable maybe." I think he said this every day.

Re: Sprinkle Memories

Yes, Coach Sprinkle was very wise. He used to tell us that if we woke up with no expectations of the day, we would not be disappointed by the events of the day. I, too, remember the nail biting and worm butt story. LOL!!!

Re: Sprinkle Memories

I'm a mom, and I got so tired of hearing Mr. Sprinkle said this and Mr. Sprinkle said that, I was ready to do him bodyly harm. You couldn't even say Butter Cup without being corrected. He really got the kids to use their brains tho. I still love him for that.

May those who love us, love us. And those that don't love us may God turn their hearts; And if he doesn't turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles so we will know them by their limping.

Re: Sprinkle Memories

I had him for my homeroom, biology and he was my offensive line coach in high school. There is no doubt he was a big influence on mine and others that were fortunate enough to have him as our coach. Me and another former lineman were just talking about him last week.

Re: Sprinkle Memories

I miss him terribly at school. I have lots of memories of him from high school--most notably staying up until all hours of the night to ace his tests. He challenged us for the first lab practical by telling us that it was impossible to make an A on it. I don't think I ever got that A on the practicals, but I dang sure learned more than I would have had he not challenged me that way.

My fondest memory of him came not while I was a student, though, but while we were co-workers. He walked by my classroom one day when class was going very well and stopped in the doorway for a moment and listened. A little while later, he came by and simply said, "I am so proud of you. You have become everything I always knew you had the potential to be. You are an asset to the profession." I'll never forget that.

He was my homeroom teacher too. It was a great way to start out the day. I remember one day I was late to his homeroom but he knew I was new to the area and had to drop my sister off at her school too. He asked me if it was raining outside and I told him that I was and all he said was well, you can't be marked tardy if its raining outside. He was such a great person and a big impact on my life as well as many others.

Happy Thanksgiving!
