Holiday Recipes

I have always enjoyed helping my family cook during the holidays. I am always looking for new recipes to come up with to surprise everyone.

I figured that we could all share some of our favorite recipes. They can be anything you want to share, main dish, appetizers, sweets, and so on.

Hope you all enjoy and I look foward to you recipes.

I will start with a treat and my grandmother's, June Humble's, famous cornbread stuffing.

Tasty Dill Cheese Nips

In a very large bowl mix:
1 pound of cheese nips
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 envelope dry Hidden Valley Dressing Mix
2 tablespoons dill weed, dry, or more to taste
Mix well, spread on a cookie sheet and let it sit overnight. Store in a tin or lock bag.

Cornbread Dressing

Cornbread:
2 cups plain cornmeal
2 eggs
2 tablespoons Wesson Oil
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups of Buttermilk

Combine all ingredients, preheat your well greased black iron skillet at 425. puor in the skillet from outside to inside. Bake until you can stick a toothpick in it and it comes out clean. If you want to use a glass pan bake at 375.

Once the cornbread has cooled, crumble up in a big bowl.
Combine the cornbread
6 slices of white bread
3 eggs
1 stick of melted butter
1/2 teaspoon of sage
1/2 teaspoon of basil
1/4 cup of bellpepper, chopped fine
3/4 cup of green onion
1 can of Campbell's Cream of Chicken Soup
Enough milk and chicken broth to make soupy (thick but not watery, I like more broth than milk)

Pour in a 9x9 greased pan and cook as you did the original cornbread at 325 degrees.

Re: Holiday Recipes

Chill, I know those will be good considering who they came from

I am an appetizer lover and am always making them for the holidays. One of my favorites is spinach dip. A lot of people never think to add rotel tomatoes to the dip but try it. It's pretty good.

Charleston Cheese Dip

1/2 cup mayo
8 oz cr cheese
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese
2 chopped gr onions
8 crushed ritz crackers
7 to 8 crumbled bacon strips

Mix the 1st 4 ingredients and put into a well sprayed quishe. Cover with crushed crackers

Bake @ 350 for 15 minutes
top with bacon

I serve mine on a 2 plate pedestal stand with a tealight on bottom plate to keep warm

Re: Holiday Recipes

this dip is so simple. it only has 3 ingredents but it goes so fast. it doesnt have a name yet either

1 package of Phil. cream cheese
1 can of chilli beans (if it needs to be meat free)or 1 can of chili (homeade chili is better)
1 package of Shred. Cheese
* a few hot peppers sliced mixed in with the chili will give it a kick. where gloves and be careful when dealing with hot peppers.

preheat oven to 250 or 300
spread chream cheese on bottom of glass casserole dish. it works better at room temp.
pour chili over cream cheese.
sprinkle shred. cheese over and pop in oven until cheese on top is melted and bubbly.

enjoy with frittos (sp)

Re: Holiday Recipes

At a party recently, I had a warm pineapple, cheese dip that I would love the recipe for. It was almost like the cheese pineapple casserole that is served warm and a good sidedish with meat but is a thinner version to serve on crackers. Would anyone have a recipe for something like this?

Re: Holiday Recipes

World's Easiest Cheesball

2 pkg. cream cheese (total of 16 oz.)
1 packet Hidden Valley Ranch dip
Bacon Bits

Combine the cream cheese and ranch dip to form a ball. Then roll the ball in bacon bits. Chill until served. This is absolutely delicious! (It helps to let the combined dip and cream cheese set up a while in the fridge before forming it into a ball.)

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND ROLL TIDE ROLL!

Dilly....it was lovethemama56. Here it is from "Thanksgiving Yummies" thread

I can't remember who posted about wanting a good carrot recipe but I have one that was given to me that taste like the ones at Cracker Barrel. It is as follows:

2 lbs fresh baby carrots
water
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon bacon grease
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup butter (melted)
1/4 cup honey

1. Melt bacon grease in boiler.
2. Add carrots and enough water to cover the top of carrots.
3. Cover with a lid and place on medium heat and bring to a boil.
4. Turn heat to low and simmer for 30-45 minutes or until the carrots are tender when pricked with a fork.
5. When carrots become tender pour half of the water off.
6. Add melted butter, sugar and honey to carrots.
7. Place lid on pot and cook until completely tender.

I wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving...

Hugs!!!
