Advice

I am going to be buying a flat screen tv soon. Can anyone tell me where on the internet I can go to learn more about them. I know that I want a LCD and not the plasma, but that is all I really know about them. Any help will be great.

Re: Advice

Go to W-M.com. You can compare price and specs of several TV's together on the same page.

Good luck in your search.

Re: Advice

I do know, but you may want to consider digital (I think that is what they are going to). Alot of TVs will come with a notice as seen below:

This TV has only an 'analog' broadcast tuner, so it will require a converter box after February 17, 2009 to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna, because of the transition to digital broadcasting on that date. (It should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV systems, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products.)

This is just a notice that I got with my son's TV last year, and I know it gives you some time (2009). But I'm not sure how all this works. It seems that if you buy analog, the only problem you should run into on Feb. 2009 would be if you used an antenna. It appears if you have cable or satellite you will be fine with an analog.

I don't know much about this kind of stuff, just remembered the notice with this TV and thought i would pass it on.

Re: Advice

When comparing televisions, the main difference is the resolutions. 1080 is the highest ATM, which is great for HD gaming, movies, etc. If you have a sattelite, then you can get the HD packages. 720 is still a great resolution (the Nintendo Wii only goes up to 480). If you don't or are not planning on getting HD packages, then I would opt for the 720 for value.

Whatever you choose, be sure and get my full address for delivery

Is that address right? www.w-m.com. It looks like a big SPAM page.

I would advise everyone to avoid www.w-m.com

Re: Advice

haven't been to w-m.com -- i figured she meant walmart.com

could be wrong.

I know froogle (go to google's homepage and just do a search for it -- it is google's version of 'MySimon'.) is a great way to compare -- along with MySimon.com

I've used both for purchases in the past and a lot of times they've saved me a lot of money; also, they kept me from mistakingly buying something I really didn't want.

Re: Advice

We got our Panasonic 52" LCD HD TV through WalMart and just love it. It has a wonderful picture from any angle and is very clear with DVD's or regular tv.
We also have dish network which is higher resolution than cable most of the time. Price is very good too for what you get.

Re: Advice

We have a Vizio LCD -- 42", I think. My husband would know. I bought it for him as a gift. I never got the big deal about HD until I watched football games on ESPN HD. Wow! What a difference. It has more ports than I thought possible on the back to plug up all sorts of things to it. The response that my game loving nephew had when he saw it over Christmas was "What?! If I knew you had this I would have brought my PS3 with me." Apparently he was impressed. Haven't had any issues with it and the volume can get VERY loud on it. We got it from Sears in Meridian. I was told that LCD lasts longer than plasma, doesn't run as hot as plasma, doesn't get images burned into it like plasma, and isn't ruined when knocked over like plasma. Personally, I didn't see what was wrong with our old 19" TV.

Re: Advice

The thing about Wal-Mart is most of their TV's are 720 instead of 1080. So that is why they are cheaper. I have a Mitsubishi 65" with a resolution of 1080p.

I agree, I would go with LCD before going to Plasma. Have you thought about the DLP projection? Technology has changed alot in the recent years dealing with projection.

Here are a couple of sites to look at I hope they help:
