Okay...I downloaded WinMX and put it on my laptop because I had heard good things about it (no spyware, etc.)
But for some reason, I can't get the [bleeping] thing to work. When I installed, the program made me choose to get into WinMX using a secondary connection; this had something to do with a TAP (?) port and a firewall...I'm not sure of the details because the error message read like something on the blue screen of death.
Now, whenever I try to connect to WinMX, I just get "connecting...connecting...connecting...," but never a connection.
Anyone know what is going on?

I wouldn't be fooling with it if I were you. If it's got anything to do with downloading music from other people's computers via the internet, I would give it a wide berth. The RIAA is going to great depths these days to catch people trading music files over the net. The cost to get out of such will NOT be cheap when you get caught doing it, I promise you!
Relax, Stick I don't use filesharing to illegally download music. I actually use the program more to find unsigned independent bands who rely on the internet to get their music out. I have downloaded some songs that are in the "public domain" (i.e. Christmas carols and classical music which the copyrights have run on).

I can go for that. Some people actually use the internet filesharing to get music out like that. I just didn't want to see you get your butt caught in a RIAA rat trap. They're perfecting the perfect mousetrap.
By the way, Stick...your signature is one of my BF's favorite quotes. He's thinking of going into politics.

Yeah when they started busting people left and right for filesharing and illegaly downloading music I stopped altogether then a few months ago I decided that I would download just a few songs and once again decided it wasn't worth the risk of getting caught.
