Bob Riley declared winner? According to the Accociated Press, Baldwin County has revised their count. Initially, Siegelamn ws given 19,070, which gave him enough to win the election. Now they say due to a glich in the voting machines, a re-count was run, giving him only 12,736. Riley's camp insists these were the numbers they had all along, which is the reason they refused to concede and felt they had won the election. Siegelman is now claiming the new vote count was called in after everyone had left the voting precincts, meaning their was nobody there to call in a true count. Both sides sent lawyers and campaign supporters to courthouses statewide to recheck numbers, including photographing election tallies that were posted at courthouses. Baldwin County's initial tally put Siegelman on top 674,052 to 670,913, a margin of 3,139. The revised number put Riley in the lead 670,913 to 667,718, a margin of 3,195. Libertarian John Sophocleus polled 23,242 votes by both accounts. The Sec. of State has officially declared Riley the winner, and Riley has already begin getting ready to take office. Siegelman has refused thus far to concede and may duspute the results. Alabama has no law requiring automatic recounts in disputed elections. However, County by County recounts can be requested, though a security bond has to be put up before the recount begins. Siegelman says if the Baldwin recount is correct, he still wins by 6000 votes. Hmmmm...Not sure where that count comes from..Smells like another Florida...
