Roger Clemens defends reputation at steroids hearing
I am newbie in the sports arena. Being a girl and all. But my instinctive feeling is that yeah he may have used them. I also feel this man is and was an amazing athlete. I think McNamee is sleezy not because he came forward with information. The fact that he held gauze and needles and blood evidence for 5 years in a baggy in his closet "just in case" OMG....this reaks of the blue dress that just was never cleaned! My god who thinks I should really hold these things you never know if i will need a house payment! I am 100% for Clemens because I think he was amazing and has done such wonderful things with his foundation. If he did the steroids or HGH is and may never be solved. I just believe in him. JMO
Wallace on 60 Minutes to defend himself against the Mitchell Report charges. Insisting he would never go for the “quick fix” of illegal drugs -- on a completely unrelated note, he recalls a period when “I was eating Vioxx like it was Skittles” -- he is calm and collected as he addresses the allegations. Just kidding, he remains true to himself and goes ape****: “I’m angry that that what I’ve done for the game of baseball and the personal, in my private life, what I’ve done that I don’t get the benefit of the doubt. The stuff that’s being said, it’s ridiculous. It’s hogwash for people to even assume this. 24, 25 years, Mike. You’d think I’d get an inch of respect. An inch.”
Good Luck Roger! HANG IN THERE!

Interestingly, even this was politicized...
Republican congressmen sided with Clemens.
Democratic congressmen side against him.
Today, somebody lied to a Congressional investigative committee. There haven't been that many obvious lies told to a Congressional committee since Watergate. Proving who lied will be the difficult part.
I don't believe Roger...JMO.

I don't know who I believe, but I do think Congress needs to focus their time and our money on more important matters and leave this issue to the baseball commission.

i think so too i think congressional hearing on baseball steroids is stupid. But since they did it I had to voice opinion. I think it was devestating to him after so much good to be destroyed. Have worked and come so far and to have his name besmirched. i just think Mcnamee is sleezy. even if he did it he is like gollem....yes my precious......

Surely Clemens wouldn't risk prison by perjuring himself. It was clear from the beginning that this inept democrat congress would make a mess of this. In all probability, this won't be the last case. Attorneys will become household names. Just goes to show what I've always said.....God had to have a heckuva sense of humor to allow armadilloes, beauty contests, caucases, democrats, attorneys and back-talking women to happen.

Everyone named in the report except Clemens has admitted to some form of use. Clemens, like Bonds, has gotten better after the age of 35--which goes against the body's natural state.
To compare pitchers with similar stats, Curt Schilling has had good moments, but his overall stats have been dropping--and he's 4 years younger than Roger. IMO, Clemens took HGH, or something comparable. He could have retired back in 2000 and been first ballot HOF. It's a shame.

Of course he's a juicer. That explains a lot about why he inexplicably threw Mike Piazza's shattered bat at Piazza in the 2000 World Series. 'Roid rage, pure and simple.
Just like Bonds, phenomenal talent and a brilliant career werent enough for him, so he starts doping at a time when he should have been practicing his Hall of Fame speech.
I hate that creep just like Barry Bonds - because he's a cheat and a liar, and I hope he gets whats coming to him.

That's quite a list.
I said several times that I extremely opposed to performance drugs and steroid use among athletes. Long-term serious health problems are my greatest concern. As a coach, I've buried enough students from car accidents, hunting accidents, and other health problems. My players know that I preach against the any illegal drug use all the time. Somebody may say, "To each his own." However, we are responsible for giving good advice to the next generation.
As far as whether Congress should be investigating this or MLB should be, the fact of the matter is that MLB has refused to investigate the matter. ALL professional athletes are role-models despite what Charles Barkley says. When teenagers see their favorite athletic hero or heroine (as was Marion Jones) doing something that "makes" them more successful, don't you think the teenager is going to want to try it, too?
Players' unions in all the sports have blocked every attempt for mandatory drug testing of professional athletes. Unfortunately, it is Congress who is the last resort to make something happen on this front. There is a precedence for Congress's investigation. During the presidency of Teddy Roosevelt, both TR and Congress investigated safety issues in American football; as a result, the sport gained many rules that refined it to be safer than most other sports.

Also remember that Major League Baseball holds its monopoly because of a Congressionally-mandated exemption from antitrust laws. That obligates them to some Congressional oversight if they want to keep their monopoly.
