Some of the Demopolis Middle group that traveled to New York City this week got up early to visit the Today Show. Al Roker was kind enough to give them a few seconds of air time.

I was one of those chaperones and we had a great time. We had a great group of kids and chaperones as well a a great guide. We have walked many a mile in the last 4 days. I don't know about the rest of them but I just rolled out of bed and am glad to be home but would turn around and go again next week.

NOT ME!!! Dont think I would want to go once a year!

I am glad I went, but I'm even "gladder" I'm home w/ my honey & my 2 weenie dogs!

Daughter is ready to move up there, tho!! She LOVED all the bright lights of the big city!

Great group of kids as FarmGirl said...They were all well-behaved & the boys were real troopers in the plays...Legally Blonde & Young Frankenstein, the latter being MY fave!!

start thinking of fundraisers to do to raise some of the money. the school does not fundraise for this trip, it is up to the parents to pay for it. the cost for one is approx. $1400 plus whatever spending money they want to take. many of the students had a few fundraisers throughout the year to pay for their trip. my daughter went on the trip and had a fabulous time so it was well worth it to me. Teach11, MsD and Farmgirl can give you tips/advice about actually going. they went this year and had a good experience.

Start w/ this next payday & put $20 in a can for spending $$$
once your'e there. That helped me out a lot. You can save a good bit that way.

If you happen to buy snowglobes of any size remember to check them in your luggage. They will get them at security and dump them in a trash container if you decide not to leave your group and check them. Pray for perfect weather . It was cold somewhat for us but no rain. Go earlier to the Today show than 6:15 and have big posters. Several of us were just out of the TV screen when DMS was featured. More Later!!

I was one of the chaperones as well. I will AMEN the great time and GREAT group of students. I have never chaperoned a trip that went as well as this one! That just shows what hard work Mrs. Mayben and Ryan W/ World Wide put into the plans for the trip!

MsD, she told me the rest of the story, just trying to get her to tell everybody. Poor baby. I haven't seen the s&p's yet, but they have got to be my favorites. I bet no one else has ever gone to that much trouble for me a set of shakers. I hope they don't look like a dog's turd.

Dog Turd or not, they will be your favorites, sweat and tears went into those things. Thanks to a great mom who salvaged them as well as some other stuff and checked them for us. I got them back as well as keeping the snow globes.

I remember when I went to New York when I was at DMS. We ended up going on the Maury show. It was the most fun I ever had.

My daughter also went on the school trip and she loved it. She was most impressed with China Town... LOL..... Go figure...... She had many story's to share... she stayed up until 3:00 telling me what all they did and showed me all her pictures.... The funny part is, I went in December and had seen all the same sights but she was so excited that I just let her tell me like I have never seen them myself. It was well worth the money to see her so excited and happy.....

I was NOT ready to come home. Just wish I could have had my other child and hubby with me, too! My favorite day was S o L, Ellis Island/Immigration Museum in the morning, Ground Zero in the afternoon, and Young Frankenstein that night. I needed a whole day in the Metropolitan and would have liked to see MOMA and the Museum of Natural History. I want to see ALL the current Broadway shows. Need to go back! I went with my 7th grade son and 8th grade daughter who loved it just as much as I did. I roomed with my daughter, shortstuff and dave's daughter (who is my neice and my daughter's best friend) and one other friend of theirs. They were fabulous, we all got along (SURPRISE)--we didn't have time to get cranky! Too much to do and see! I'll try to post some pics later.

Fundraisers: start early and do something every couple of months. My mother-in-law is a fantastic cook and she helped us out with the cake sales, which made a LOT of money for us! Car washes don't really make much, especially if you've got 10 kids participating and you only bring in 200.00 for the day. Get in small groups--2 or 3 families, and do fundraisers together. It was a big investment for us (3 going), but the entire time I was there, I just kept thinking that it was worth every penny.
I don't know who most of you parents are by your screen names, but I want to commend you for your children's behavior and attitudes. I was SO PROUD of all the Demop kids on the trip. Congratulations to all of you--that's a GREAT bunch of kids. You are doing a wonderful job!

actually, there was very little emotion there for me as it looked like a construction zone, all fenced off. Of course, someone was there trying to sell a "souvenir book" of the place.

I thought that this area would be more "thought-provoking" as well, but the tour guide says it was 16 acres....didn't look that big either, but I guess it was about a city block...New York style!

New York is fun. Glad to know that Demopolis got mentioned in a good way on tv. I went about 4 years ago when I was in college at Judson. We got to sing in Carnige Hall. THAT was the coolest thing I've ever done in my life! I could move to NYC in a heartbeat because the city is soooo easy to navigate. Plus I can walk or subway everywhere I needed to go. Man I miss that place.
