Remains Found at Camp Shelby
The military is investigating the discovery of possible human remains at the sprawling Camp Shelby training base south of Hattiesburg. Authorities said Tuesday that the remains were found near motor pool nine on base. Authorities would not elaborate on how the remains were found or a possible identity. Camp Shelby spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Doril Sanders said a criminal investigation team has been called in from Fort Rucker, Alabama. Sanders says the National Guard will release more information later.

I have not heard anything else. I am going to watch the news tonight and see if they say anything else about it.

Is this base have tight security or can the public access it easily?

Camp Shelby has tight security at each entrance. It was almost impossible for me to get on the base a couple of years ago because I gave them the wrong auto insurance card when they searched my vehicle...but after locating the right one I was issued a temp permit. That has been my experience with the base. I don't know about anybody else that has been there recently though.

Back in the 1980s while I was a student at nearby William Carey College, there was rather easy access to the base.

uwa_amanda's article indicates that this may be a soldier who has been missing since last summer.

I remember my Uncle Frank with the Guard unit from Linden going to Shelby for summer guard duty in the 1960's he always said it was real big and hot.

It willbe real interesting to learn what the cause of death is in this case.
