In the same way we evolved to guns...
Hands -> blunt objects -> projected weapons and knife/cutting based weapons -> guns -> automatic guns -> bombs -> WMD ..... I expect, as and as this news story goes -- that we'll be progressing backwards.
As the story you originally posted said, we need to feel safe. As long as people are paranoid and constantly being scared, then ...

Is gun toting in the streets of Britain going to make you a little reserved? Yes. Same exact thing with knife toting...
We're talking about a different country. There are several examples of countries that have gun bans and are doing excellent -- extremely low crime rates, extremely low injuries, accidents, and murders. It all depends on where you live. But in America, I stand by the 2nd Amendment that we all have the right to bear arms for the reason of, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
