I'm closing out the old President poll and starting a new one here to reflect what will be the Final Candidates. Now that we are down to the final choices, what's it going to be?

I expect Obama to BOMB in this poll. We all know we're living in a Red State. I also find it funny that 41 people have voted so far for McCain in this poll, but there haven't been nearly that many people who've even posted in any of the threads concerning the topic....!

Unless something more provacative pops up, high gas prices may have the greatest impact on this election.....discovering and developing alternative energy sources have not been a priority for either political party......however democrats have historically resisted expanded drilling in pristine environments (McCain is against it too)......it might be 10 years before new drilling would actually relieve the world shortage but the threat might lower crude oil prices significantly right now because it would slow up the speculators.....
Voters may remember that democrats have resisted expanding drilling and have done little to promote development of alternate sources of energy as mentioned previously......lower income citizens are going to be affected more seriously than the more affluent......people are frightened.......the first candidate to communicate a realistic solution may win this election

To me, I like the idea of going away from oil all together. I was just reading today that there are companies right now trying to rush a conversion kit that turns any car into a plug in hybrid and will double the fuel effiency of the car. One of the greatest things about living in a free market capitalist economy is that somewhere as we speak there is someone looking to profit $4.00 gas. We will see more and more inventions and alternative fuels in the coming months and I for one welcome it.
1. I am tired of being dependant on other wise hostile countries for the very thing that we all need every day to function. To go to work, to plow our fields. Do you really want to fight the war on terror? QUIT BUYING OIL FROM THE MIDDLE EAST. Can we be energy independent? YES WE CAN!
2. I am tired of all the pollution and gloobal warming problems. Do you have children? What kind of world are we leaving them? Will it look like Mad Max? Waterworld? Terminator? My point is that this could also help slow down or reverse climate change. Do you ever go outside? Do you ever notice how HOT it is here? Did you kow that the sun puts off enough energy in one second that if we could harness it, would be enough to power the entire USA for 4 thousand years. If we all had solar panels on our roofs, we would actually capture enough energy to pump electricty back into the power grid.
Why have the politicians been so slow in effecting these kind of changes? POWERFUL LOBBIST GROUPS THAT PAY FOR THEIR CAMPAIGNS.
Senator Obama understands this. This is from his web site
The Problem
Foreign Oil: America's 20-million-barrel-a-day oil habit costs our economy $1.4 billion a day, and $500 billion in 2006 alone. Every single hour, we spend $41 million on foreign oil.
Climate Change: As a result of climate change, glaciers are melting faster; the polar ice caps are shrinking; trees are blooming earlier; more people are dying in heat waves; species are migrating, and eventually many will become extinct.
This is one of the main reasons I support him. We can't keep trying to do the same thing over and over and get a different result. It just will not happen.

In the ethanol thread it has been explained that if we used every bit of our corn to make ethanol, it would only make up 15% of our gas requirements.....at present, and for maybe years, we have no choice but to use fossil fuels because no one has really invested in alternatives........of course it's imperative to become energy independant but I don't want to witness lower income folks suffer in the interium, this mess certainly isn't their fault.....
In a report recently it was stated that democrats have at least as much invested in oil stocks as republicans, which may explain why they haven't done anymore than republicans to remedy the situation, but continue to "talk out of both sides of their mouths".
Neither candidate can do "squat" without a complete and universal overhaul of our perceptions of energy sources......it's not going to happen overnight regardless of the oratory, there have certainly been no specifics.

Interesting comparisons of the 2 candidates tax plans. If any DLive members are set to get screwed by Obama's plan, please send me your contact information so we can discuss donations to the website.

Billionaire George Soros has unlimited access to internet through 521's to promote Obama and smear McCain, it may influence younger, emotional, inexperienced voters but hopefully not the mainstream.

Yes he can, however -- the previous things shown are not smears, they are obviously true. I suppose instead of posting a "montage of blunders" I could have went through and found each individual interview, but would that make any difference?
It's like I said before, I really liked the John McCain of 2000 and before, but ever since then it seems like he's been using both sides of the road in his StraightTalk Bus.... maybe it's the Strings... I wonder who's been pulling them?
No candidate has had to deal with "smears" as much as Obama has since announcing his candidacy. Kerry was "Swiftboated", Obama is being "emailed" to death.
I'm sure McCain still remembers South Carolina and the "black baby" campaign orchestrated by Karl Rove. Perhaps he won't go down the same road.

Situations have certainly changed since 2000 and McCain is not wary nor afraid of changing with them.
I honestly don't believe either Obama or McCain approve of these untrue and slanderous blogs by their respective surrogates but there's little they can do about them......the sheer number of these blogs is overwhelming and dealing with each of them separately is an impossibility.

I've got Georgia on my mind...
Ladies and gentlemen, it's not just a song. Two of Georgia's favorite children are leading "third party" bids for the White House.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/12/mckinney.green.party/index.html
The Green Party ticket
Pres - Cynthia McKinney (GA) former Democratic Congresswoman
Veep - Rosa Clemente (NY)
The Libertarian ticket
Pres - Bob Barr (GA) former Republican Congressman
Veep - Wayne Allyn Root (NY)
Interestingly, these two former US Representatives are noted for their extreme positions. Their running mates are noted for being even more extreme. For those looking for someone other than McCain and Obama...the rest of the field isn't looking very appealing.

Lets keep this poll going.
Will be interesting to see who is on top after all the info is out on all the candidates.
They can not be in the spotlight till Nov without showing their true colors now and then.

Same thing over and over? EITHER candidate would be the same thing as we've had since the Wilson administration. Both parties are liberal at this point. If you actually want something different for this country, don't vote for either McCain or Obama...try voting for a non-liberal for the first time in 80 years.

It might be longer than 80 years. Grover Cleveland, William McKinley, and Teddy Roosevelt would be classified as liberals as well.

Most people on this site are rurals, or small town Bible Belt voters -- this poll is a no question win for McCain. I don't even see the point in having this poll. If you included the other parties... like the Green Party, someone running Independent, the Socialists, etc., then it may be interesting.
But a 50/50 vote for either McCain or Obama in Demopolis
a chicken without tic-tac-toe skills could know who is going to win this poll...

I agree. I haven't voted in this poll for the simple reason that I couldn't decide whether to put an X or an O in the square. This year, I'm taking a chicken with me to the polling place.
