Salmonellosis Outbreak in Certain Types of Tomatoes

I saw on Fox News this morning that cetain types of tomatoes, from certain areas were possibly contaminated with salmonella. The FDA is recommending that restaurants not serve red plum, red roma, & round red tomatoes unless they come from certain states that have not had a problem. This is the address to check it out
http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/tomatoes.html

It also cautions about salsa's etc. that are made with fresh tomatoes. It seems that you can't just wash the salmonella off, it is actually in some of the tomatoes. At the Farmhouse, we have thrown away the tomatoes we had and will not have any until we can find some that are approved as safe.

Amen to that, MsD. I had it back in '97 while I was working at a chicken plant and for 2 weeks I wished I would just die! Glad to see that my home state of AR is on the safe list tho. Tomatoes is my home towns bread and butter.

Re: Salmonellosis Outbreak in Certain Types of Tomatoes

Oh great, I just had a chicken salad plate from Pam's and the chicken salad was nestled down in a big ol tomato. Naturally, I ate the vessel in which the chicken salad was displayed in. Should I be concerned??
