I believe the real question in the "race" for Singleton's vacated house seat in District 72 is: "How many absentee votes does it take to win?" ;)

So far you have 3 candidates:

Albert Turner Jr: Altercations with the law, not to mention getting less votes when running against Artur Davis than Ed Key got in the last Mayor election, and this man is the "frontrunner".

Phillip White: With the help of Bobby Singleton, White won re-election in his bid for Uniontown Mayor. His platform is "building relationships and unity" in the Black Belt; yet would tell citizens of Uniontown that voting for a white candidate would send them back to slavery times.

Ralph A. Howard: A "newcomer" to the political scene. Howard is a former marine and has a degree from the University of Alabama in criminal justice.

Is it just me, or does this choice seem painfully obvioius??

Ralph Howard is a Paramedic and the Director of Hale County Ambulance Service and has been for over twenty years that I know of. He was one of the first Paramedics to hit the streets of Alabama back in the early 1970's. Ralph's been deep into politics in Hale County for years albeit behind the scenes. The only thing I wouldn't like about him getting elected is the fact he's a real close personal friend to Dr. Phillip K. Bobo. Bobo' & Siegelman are in enough trouble right now on their own. I would sure hate to see Ralph get tangled up in Dr. Phillip Bobo's political aspirations and manipulations.

As for Phillip White, I don't know the man other than he's the Mayor of Uniontown, owns White's Funeral Home in Uniontown, and what I read from his constituents in the paper about how he runs Uniontown. He's got a lot of work to do in Uniontown before he goes to Montgomery for bigger and better things.

Albert Turner, Jr. from Marion is nothing but a clown for this position! Please! Anybody who would vote for this man has got to be crazy! I ain't voting for any man who calls his constituents "hanky headed n*****s"! I don't care if the man is black, he's got no business calling anyone that, white OR black! Another thing is he got into all that flap over assaulting someone in a County Commission meeting a couple of years ago and got himself arrested over that. This is the kind of junk we DON'T need representing us in Montgomery! His daddy may have been a big civil rights advocate, but this man's done more to tarnish the civil rights movement than his daddy probably did to promote it!

I would wait and see who else comes out for this office. We've still got about 5 months before an election will come around. There are other people talking about running. God, I sure hope so!

After reading the Democrat - Reporter last night, I came to realize the Ralph Howard running for the Senate District 72 seat is NOT the Ralph Howard I mentioned above! I guess Hale County is like Marengo County in that it has two people named Ralph Howard while Marengo County has two people named Scott Jones. What a small world! My apologies for the confusion.
