The Demopolis Tigers are now 2 games away form a state title. On a cold night in Montgomery, the DHS faithful out cheered the hometown Trinity Wildcats and the Tigers delivered with a 19-9 victory. The Wildcat defense was tough, making Rembert and Burrell earn every yard they gained. The Tiger defense was equally strong, including two key interceptions by Lequinton Lomax. The Tigers will host UMS-Wright in the Semi-Finals at Memorial Stadium this Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. A huge crowd is expected to be on hand. Everyone who’s not confined should be there to send our guys to Birmingham.
Congratulations to the Marengo Academy Longhorns on winning the AA High School state championship. They defeated the Southern Academy Cougars 21-6 to claim their 2nd state title in as many years.
In other news…Preston Bowden Pleads guilty to possession of stolen firearms. His sentencing will be February 26th, 2003. He faces up to 10 years in prison. If they aren’t stealing guns, they are extorting money and burying it in the yard. Gotta love Linden Law Enforcement.
Indigent care continues to be an issue at BWWMH. The hospital and the County Commission want to sit down together and talk things out; they just can’t seem to find the time to do it. The Commission sent an invitation to the Hospital to attend a work session on Nov. 25th, but CEO Charles Nabors wants a special session just for this subject.
Southern Pride Catfish has been purchased by American Seafoods Group, based out of Seattle, WA. So far, the only job apparently safe is Joe Glover’s, the founder of Southern Pride Catfish. The company employ’s roughly 800 folks in Greensboro and Demopolis. Hopefully everyone employed remains that way.
Finally…The Auburn Tigers Beat the Crimson Tide 17-7 in Tuscaloosa, bringing their record there to 4-0. Except for a few of us Tiger fanatics, virtually no one in the state or the nation game Auburn a chance to even compete, much less win. The Tuscaloosa curse continues…
