Thin, light and fast, you're looking for a Centrino. 90% of the low end Centrino's are identical, just different support.
I sell ASI, I recommend ASI or Toshiba. My only gripe with Sony is their parts are expensive compared to other laptop parts. |

Oldman is right. The Centrino is actually a processor type made my Intel Corporation, one of the two major CPU manufacturers in the world. AMD is the other and the one I tend to lean toward. AMD has just came out with its own version of the "mobile" processor, the Turion processor. It is 64bit compatible, and as of now there is hardly any software supporting the 64bit faction, but it is a plus. Even though I am a devote AMD customer, I would say stay with a laptop that has a Centrino proc. You can get 5 to 7 hours of battery life out of a laptop with a Centrino proc if you have it set right. Well that was a lesson in processors - now on to a good thin, light, fast laptop. You really need to look at what type of customer support you can get when you buy something off the shelf because most laptops are mostly identical, they are just sold by different vendors. Oldman is probably on a good note with the toshiba, but I'm not sure about the tech support. More than likely their support is based out of the states or out of the country; that means you get someone that can barely speak english trying to tell you how to turn your laptop back on---lol. Dell and Gateway both are trying to base most of the technical support back inside the US, and I have dealt with Gateway support a lot because most of Demopolis City Schools is Gateway (I would like to change that!). They have very good tech support and so does Dell. HP has good tech support too and if you have a Sam's Club card you can go there and get a nice laptop for a good price. The only info I can give on vendors is do not buy a Compaq. Even though HP bought out Compaq some time ago they are still made by Compaq and do not have the HP quality. Ok that's all the brain power I have to give to this subject. (everyone will have their own opinion when it comes to these types of things) Peace
