COTR 2002 is in full swing.
<p>A great week is leading up to a huge weekend. Monday Dan Wilson was crowned honorary St. Nicholas for COTR 2002. Dan is truly deserving of the honor. Congratulations to all the nominees. Including Demopolis.biz own Patrick Ellis Also on Monday was the lighting of the City Christmas Tree, which featured a fireworks display. Monday and Tuesday the Demopolis Singers along with the Canebrake players presented “I’ll be home for Christmas”. Tuesday also featured a live nativity scene presented in the Demopolis Public Square. Wednesday a Community-Wide church service was held at the First Presbyterian Church. Thursday showcased Christmas in the Canebrake, which featured tours of Gaineswood, Bluff Hall, and the Trinity Episcopal Church. Friday is the Alabama State Championship Cook-off, beginning at 4 p.m. at the City Landing.<br>Saturday is the big finale. The day begins at 7:30 a.m. with the famous “Fair in the Square”. Featured this year is live entertainment on a stage near Commercial National Bank from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. At 11:30 is the highly anticipated Children’s Day Parade, which has presented over 80 entries the last 2 years. Demopolis.biz will have an entry this year. We’ll be throwing out some candy and a few other surprises. The Jingle Bell 5K walk-run is at 8 a.m. at Demopolis City Hall. Judging for the BBQ Cook-off is from noon to 4 p.m. at the City Landing. “Christmas at the Canebrake will have an encore performance at the old Main Street School beginning at 2:30. The Nautical River Parade and Fireworks Display are from 6:30 till 8:30 p.m. at the City Landing. Immediately following the night parade is a dance at the Civic Center from 8:30 till midnight.</p>
<p>We are looking forward to participating in this years Day Parade. After preparing for the parade, I have nothing but respect for those that have been building floats for the Parade all these years. The time, effort, and hard work that go into these floats these folks put in for no other reason than to make the event that much better for everyone, is truly amazing. I have no doubt everyone that’s able will be enjoying all the festivities Saturday. If you see us in the parade, give us a shout! We’ll be sure to throw something your way :D
