Don't shoot the messenger.
Apparently alot of folks got mad at the Demopolis Times for reporting the rash of burglaries committed during the COTR night parade and following dance. My question is: Why are you mad at the Times? Are we saying these incidents didn’t warrant as much press coverage as Trula Quinney’s report on somebody’s grandchildren visiting for the weekend? The Times has an obligation to print the truth, whether it is good news or bad news. The community has the right to know about these things. Next year, we’ll be more prepared for lowlifes looking for some free stuff at other people’s expense during COTR. If you’re going to be mad at someone, be mad at who did the deed, not who told you about it.
John Essex receives much needed support.
An article in the December 2nd issue of The New York Times talked about the poor state of John Essex School. The article illustrates the problems that poor, rural schools face. (You can view the article here. You may have to sign up to view it) Since the article went to press, Loretta McCoy, Essex Principal, has received donations of books, cash, checks, and cards of support. There is even a group of students in New York that want to “adopt” the school. It seems there is more than one institution in Marengo County that could use tax money.
