I got a call today from Mark Pettus concerning the Arch Street Project. He said there was to be a city council meeting today and this was going to be brought up for discussion. It was too late for me to get up with anyone that could make the meeting so don't know if many showed up that were for it or not. He did say that so far about the only ones they've heard from on this matter are from the few that are opposed to it, being I'm sure those who's property would be next to it.
He suggested that all those who are for the project to please email or write letters to the city council voicing your views on this so both sides can be heard equally on it.
If anyone knows the email address for city hall maybe they will share it here.
Well, thanks to a phone call from Jeff... DemopolisLive's own Ace Reporter was at the meeting taking notes for everyone here...
The part with Arch Street was too funny as Ronnie Willingham stole the show with some very sweet quotes, such as, "I'm here to represent the fishermen of Demopolis and all we want is the landing fixed up," and then he said, "No one even goes to Bluff Hall," Kirk Brooker said, "Yes, they do" Ronnie asked him how many visitors in one month... Brooker replied, "55", Willingham said, "I have about 300 in one day and this is why we need it fixed, so we can host the big fishing tornaments."
Funny stuff... Nothing major was said, just the usual comments flying around.. "Its a grassy area, leave it as grass", "I say pave the whole thing and open it for traffic", these are just some samples of the funny comments during the meeting...
Moving on up, Moving on up to eastside, to those deluxe apartments in the sky!!!.
I am so down with ronnie ! He makes a good point. Why spend money on 55 people a month when 300 a day spend money here ?.
I AGREE!!! You can go by the city landing anytime there is a fishing tournament going on and there will be boats trailers everywhere and no where to park!!!!The night before there are boats at every motel and you know the fishermen are out spending money on food and drinks...etc!!!!
There does not appear that many people are for the walkway.
Lets just remind that the grant isn't for the City Landing, it's for the Riverwalk. You cannot take grant money marked for one thing and spend it on another.

I think we need to start an email campaigne. All those who are for the Arch Street Project, and personally I am, need to write those in city hall and voice their opinions. So far they are only hearing from those few who oppose do to personal reasons, like living next to it. I think it would be great to have a nice walking path along the river, I would definitely get out and enjoy it more myself. Walking on the streets or on these awful sidewalks around here is dangerous. It would nice to have a great view of the river while out walking and enjoying the fresh air.
I have seen the drawing of the Arch Street Project. The landing is included. It is pretty awesome. There are docks between the new & the old landings for boats to park. This is something that we have needed for a long time. Those of you who do not know the city landing was once the city dump. The glass that has washed up in the past is tuff on the feet. I think if the paper could print a draft of this drawing people would see this project in a different light. I feel the anti's do not want you, the poor humble people, of Demop to see. Vicki and Mark have a great idea. Ok Demop times maybe I missed it but let's see if you can put the drawing in print.
I'll try and get ahold of the original file--should be able to display it on the web much better than in a newspaper.
