With all of the fuss over Arch St. lately I got to thinking.
If my voice could be heard by the people who control stuff in Demopolis, what would I want them to add to the city to make it a better place ?
My answer would be a nice YMCA.
What would you add ? Just want to get some ideas from the people.
I think that s shooting range would be nice as well also i am with LPL a YMCA would be nice.. I know that the one in Tuscaloosa is very nice and they are always having campus in the summer for kids that are not old enough to stay at home by their selves and don't want to have to hire babysitter to stay with them all summer... I think it would give adults and kids somewhere good to go.

Re: What would you like ?
def have to go with a shooting range. i love archery and rifles and such. also a riding trail or something for those of us who love to ride horses. i don't know really. maybe a coffee shop or something. starbucks. yeah. starbucks.
My hands tremble, my voice quakes,
my heart cries out, my body shakes,
my tears fall, my breath stills,
my strenght fails, my mind reels.....
The Mayor anc council can help convince entrapeneurs to come to our fair city, but I doubt you'll see them open any themselves. I'm not sure our town an support a shopping mall--at least one on par with what's in Meridian, T-Town, etc.
We had over 2 million is reserve in the City account when Caldwell was still in office. I haven't seen anything come up that the City used that money on. They have a public safety complex to build, yet they claim there is no money to do it. (we even gave our share of the county sales tax to the hospital). I would like to see accountability. I would like to see an open government. I would like the current administration show me something that convinces me they actually know what they are doing.

I would like to see them use the Rosenbush Building, which was given to the city free of charge, as something for the town to benefit from. So far all they've used it for is a big storage building for unused equipment and letting it be vandalized. Mr Rosenbush is really ticked off about it too. I just sent an email to city hall asking a few questions about it. If you would like to send an email and voice your opinions of what you would like to see happen in Demopolis, here is their email address: DemopolisAL@westal.net This also goes for your ideas on the Arch Street Project.

Re: What would you like ?
Years ago demopolis used to have an archery range, the shooting range was in bad shape but none the less had potential. I think that could be built again with very little expense. I would def. agree with LPL on the YMCA, Adults as well as children could use the facility. I got nothing against playing XBox or any other games but lets face it----we need to get off the couch every once in awhile. I myself am a "Sofa tater"
I can eat cornbread out of a coke bottle with these chicklets!
You guys tell me how in the world a shooting range would benefit the fair city of demopolis? As far as a mall Dave is right no way Demopolis can support a mall besides if you tried to develop one around here folks will cry about how it will destroy the historic downtown. I would agree with LPL something for the youth to do would benefit the city most. Went by Parr's Sat night and it was packed with kids hanging out. Its sad that the youth of demopolis has no where to go. A YMCA or Boys and Girls Club would be awesome. Especially for the pre-teens and those in their early teens.

The sad thing about the YMCA is the fact that we could of had one years ago, but the city was to cheap to match a dotation from N.Y. Jets great Marty Lions, who use to live here.
He offered the city $50,000, if they would match it and build it and the city turned him down (Mayor Caldwell)....
Oh well, it sure would have been though....
