Demopolis National Guard

A while back news started to leak out that the 167th Engineer Company (Floating Bridge), Alabama National Guard, was being converted over to a Transportation unit.

Information from three good sources have given me an update. The Demopolis NG unit will be redisignated as Company A 31st Support Battalion headquartered in Northport. The projected timetable is to have the unit, about 150 members, depart Demopolis in August for extensive training at a military installation and depart for Iraq during a September/October timeframe. This action is also for the unit's detachment in Centreville (Bibb County).

The official announcement has not been made, which must come to NG headquarters in Montgomery.

Remember the unit was activated in early 2003, deploying to Fort Benning for about four months.

my b/f is in a military hospital in Jacksonvillie and i really need to get there but dont know if i can since he is on the base. i know this is a little off the subject but if someone knows please please PM me. I hope that our boys dont have to go over there. once again thanks and let me know as soon as possiable

Blondie if you are talking about Jacksonville, Florida there are two Naval stations there. Mayport Naval Station is on the east side of Jacksonville and Naval Air Station Jacksonville is on the south side of the city. You can vist friends and relatives on the base. You will need a proper ID, if you drive your DL will do. Make sure it has not expired. They will process you at the gate which may take some time if the line is long. Your b/f may be able to obtain lodging for you on base since you are visiting him in the hospital. You will be able to dine in the restaurants on base but will not be able to go to the BX, commissary or buy gasoline among other things without the relative. PM me if you need more info. I have to go to NAS Meridian today and will try and get more info for you.

thank you sarge. i talked to him today. he is ok but they still dont know what is wrong. if they dont find out what is happening is a few days then i am gonna go down there. any more info you could get would be great.

Just a little bit of info about Jacksonville...it's HUGE!!! I drove through there on a trip to Melbourne last spring. It took us about 45 minutes to pass through the outskirts of it. We drove back through the city on the way back and discovered that it is really huge.

My information on the Demopolis National Guard unit was verified by a VERY high ranking member. The unit and/or the State NG Headquarters, for unknown reasons, is not ready to make an official announcement. I stated my view that someone should make an official announcement since it is becoming common knowledge in the community and for rumor control. I do not post this type info unless I am sure of the facts and verified them with more than two sources. This will be no turning around for the unit like it was a couple of years ago.

well he isnt doing as well as he led on. his roomate and his parents told me how bad it really was. what is it with guys when they wont tell you that they are really hurt. i guess he didnt wanna worry me, too late. ill keep ya'll posted. my brother was stationed down there so i think he has friends that can help. we really need to find out if our boys are going. i know several ppl who i hope will be coming home for a break, even better for good.
