'Welcome Home' Celebration in Meridian
A 'Welcome Home' celebration is set for Monday, May 23 in Meridian.
The event is being held to honor local military personnel who have served their country since September 11, 2001. Many of these personnel also are from West Alabama towns who serve in the Mississippi Guard. Remember a soldier from Aliceville killed in Iraq was a member of the Mississippi National Guard.
The main events are:
4:00pm About 300 "Ride for the Wall" motorcyclists will arrive in Meridian. This annual ride will end up at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington on Memorial Day.
4:30pm. The 'Ride For the Wall' group will conduct a ceremony at the Lauderdale County Courthouse.
5:00pm The main ceremony will begin. NAS Meridian will have a flyover.
6:00pm A parade consisting of soldiers and military vehicles will begin. This will be about an hour long.
After the parade: Several bands will perform on stage as well as other activities.
8:30 Grand fireworks display.
Even though this is in Meridian please try and attend. I plan on going to see 300 hogs thunder through town.
