The 4th of July is coming up quickly and our troops in Iraq would like to celebrate it as well. They are asking for help in getting in items they can't get over there to make their day special. Afterall it's our freedom they are risking their lives for there in the first place.
Things they are requesting are special treats that are non perishable like canned pudding, boxed cookies, any non aerosol canned goodies and the like. Maybe paper items that they could use as well. Sarge has a list from them of some specific things they've requested.
We need to pull together as a family here and send over things for them to help make the day special. We will need to get it together soon however and get it mailed in order for them to receive it in time.
You can bring your donations by Angel Wing Gallery if you like or get up with Sarge and we'll make arrangements but please do it soon. Let's not let our guys down over there.
We also still need lots of paperback books as well to send over there. I have lots of special envelopes at the gallery just for mailing such as this to our troops.
even if you cant afford to send anything, something as simple as an encouraging letter will make their day. trust me!!
Exactly right! We just need to let them know they aren't forgotten and that we appreciate all their sacrifices for the good of so many. My husband was in the Army for 8 1/2 years and spent a year of that in Viet Nam. Of course the only ones supporting our troops then were their families. We can do better for our guys and gals over there now.
The local VFW treasurer is taking the co-chair of the unit's support group shopping tomorrow to purchase the items the troops need. Due to time restraints, the items must be mailed in the next day or so in order for them to arrive in time. Any donations to replace the emergency funds the VFW is using will be appreciated. Postage of the items has to be considered also. The Pilot Club of Demopolis passed the hat at their monthly meeting last night, which is greatly appreciated. Cash or check donations may be left at Angel Wing Gallery, downtown Demopolis or at WIN 98 on Jefferson Road. Announcemenebt will be on WIN 98 starting tomorrow morning. Make checks payable to "VFW Post 5377". all donations are tax deductible. Please DO NOT take items listed by Angel Wing to the collection locations.

The local VFW Post did take a family member of the unit shopping yesterday. Everything they desired is purchased and will be mailed today, about ten boxes. Postage will cost about as much as the items. Please help the VFW replace the funds for the next emergency or needs of our veterans or troops. Please send your donations to AngelWing. AngelWing also has the unit address and a list of the troops names if anyone wishes to send mail. Thanks everyone for your help and thanks to AngelWing for her time with this project.
Eight packages was mailed today to the Linden National Guard Unit in Iraq by priority mail. Many of the packages weighed about 25 pounds. Additional items was also mailed by other members of the family support group. Please help the VFW replace the funds used for this activity. I have been asked to relay a big thank-you from the troops. They appreciate everything we do for them. Our next big support project for the unit will begin in September when we gear up for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Don't forget guys that the troops still could use other items other times besides holidays, like cards from back home, books, magazines, videos, and even non perishible goodies just to let them know you are thinking about them and praying for their safe return.
If you would like to send them letters or cards I have the list of all those over there from our area. You can also just drop them off without a name on the front and we'll add names to them if you like.
