Forty-six arrested on sixty-three offenses.

It’s almost as much a tradition as the mudbugs themselves: watching folks get arrested in Faunsdale during the annual Crawfish Festival. This year didn’t disappoint, nabbing forty-six arrests during the two day event. Of the charges filed included: 19 arrested for drinking while underage, ten charged with disorderly conduct, 9 for having open alcoholic beverages in a vehicle, 1 charge of possession of cocaine, 6 charged for possession of marijuana, 4 for possession of drug paraphernalia, 2 for distributing alcohol to minors, 5 for public intoxication(must be selective prosecution here), 1 for assault on an officer, 2 for obstruction of justice, 1 for using a fake ID, 1 for attempting to elude arrest, 1 for having no driver’s license, 1 for resisting arrest. The total of 46 people arrested is up from 37 at last year’s festival. It’s been rumored that locals in Faunsdale are looking to shutting down the annual drunk fest, citing among other things that the festival is nothing more than a chance to arrest lots of people. I take it these citizens are concerned with how the Crawfish Festival makes the town look to outsiders. I say it’s ALL anyone has to look at. I think calling Faunsdale a town is a stretch. What else does that “town” have to put itself on the map? I do agree the festival is one big drunken party, though. I don’t feel you should get rid of it because of the fact. Just call it what it is, put up bigger gates, and prepare for overtime to peace officers of all branches. If Uniontown can have its Foot Wash, then Faunsdale should have its festival. Stop pushing it as a “family event”, have a few booths with drive-up service outside the gate for those with kids who did the mudbugs, charge your gate fee and put up a sign that states clearly “enter at your own risk”. If you attempt to clean it up anymore, it will just decrease the crowd size that shows up. I can’t wait to see what the Bike Rally stirs up this weekend.

More dog crap in Linden.

Now, according to the Democrat-Reporter, since they never actually “advertised” the dog ordinance adopted 2 years ago, it is unlawful for the city to enforce it. They even go as far as to state anyone that had to pay a fine to get their pet out of the pound can receive refunds because they weren’t “properly notified” of the ordinance. Really… If no one knew about it, why were their so many people upset over it? Did the Democrat not print numerous articles on the subject, including the exact wording of the ordinance? Yes they did; criticizing it mind you, but the printed it just the same. Pretty much every person in Linden not only knows the ordinance, but knows the dog catcher by name. The Demopolis Times and this website as well have posted numerous articles on the subject as well, just in case someone in Linden doesn’t read their hometown rag. This is nothing more than a bowl of crap being stirred by the press in Linden because they don’t agree a dog can be shot if it can’t be controlled. This coming from the same newspaper editor that encourages vigilantism towards drug dealers apparently doesn’t think a Pit Bull should receive the same fate if you can’t stop it from eating someone’s child. Bottom line: keep your dog in check, and don’t be pretentious and demand a refund when you know damn well what the rules were.

News n Notes…
Uniontown will hold the Second Annual Ervin Dudley Day Parade today at 4 p.m. in the City of Uniontown. I’m not sure who will be participating in the parade, since everyone I know won’t drive slower than 60 through Uniontown, much less crawl through at a snail’s pace. There is also a banquet honoring Ervin Dudley (University of Alabama basketball standout) to be held at 7 p.m. at Robert C. Hatch High School gymnasium. Admission is $5, with Congressman Artur Davis as the guest speaker.
The Faunsdale Bike Rally begins today on the Walker Farm on Old U.S. High 80 in Faunsdale, AL. Admission is $20 for the entire weekend (18th – 20th). All bikers and friends are welcome. Street legal bike only to be allowed. There will be plenty of food, music, entertainment, and of course the many bikes on display. For more information, contact Bob Walker at 1-334-628-6356. Anyone that gets any pictures please share them in the gallery or the forums.
I would like to wish you and yours a happy Easter Sunday. Despite what some liberals may tell you in Washington, honoring God and Jesus can only be a good thing.
