I was told by someone from the inside that the Demopolis Youth baseball league is missing a substantial amount of money from their bank account. To add insult to injury, this same thief purchased a shave ice machine and was renting it to the same youth league from which they stole the money, as well as a couple of other local organizations. The rent money on the shave ice machine was also pocketed. The person who took the money has been identified and confronted with this crime. As in the usual Demopolis tradition, this person was given a deadline to repay the missing money without criminal prosecution by a couple of local lawyers who just happen to have children participating in this league. I was told about this last month, but have yet to see anything published in any of the local newspapers about this.

What happened to the law in this town? Is it not a crime to steal money in this fashion? Look at the city hall scandal! We'll never know who the real culprit in that deal was. No one was prosecuted. It was all covered up nice and neatly. On the other hand, look how the missing money from Commercial Bank was handled. It was thoroughly investigated and two women not only lost their jobs over it, but were arrested and prosecuted for it!

I don't know about anyone else, but tax money, youth league ballteam money, or bank money, it's all the same. It's NACHO MONEY! Just because you have access to it does not mean that you can take it, use it, spend it, and expect not to be held accountable for it! This needs to be brought out into the open and somebody needs to be held accountable. I also think that the local attorneys who are trying to handle this deal "under the table" need to be brought up on charges as well. To me, they are just as guilty of stealing the money as the one who actually stole it! This is a violation of public trust in it's worst way!

Crooked cops, crooked law, crooked government, and crooked business. How big of a beating does Marengo County have to take before it's citizens stand up and cry ENOUGH! ???

I haven't heard of this until now..This is a recurring theme, especially in Demopolis. There was a bank teller I think that embezzled thousands. She obly had to pay it back and didn't even have a problem getting another job afterward. I'm not sure what rank or status you have to have to enjoy these "above the law" privlages. We should all be so lucky. I'm sure all those kids arrested for shoplifting would have gladly given it back to avoid a record.

I got this email regarding the missing money and said I would post it.
Please clarify your article on the missing money to indicate that this is not the Demopolis Dixie Youth/Dixie Boys Baseball program. I am a member of the DDYB Board. I have heard rumors of what you are talking about, that regard the Dixie Girls league. I can't substantiate anything regarding this, so I'll leave it at that and ask you to note that these are 2 very separate programs. <br>Mack Davis -- 289-8177

Still and the same, it is money stolen from a youth baseball league. Still and the same, it's all being kept on the "down-low" by high fullutin' folks in Demopolis. When's the guilty culprit gonna make a guest appearance on the front page of the Democrat - Reporter sporting stainless steel bracelets and police escort???
