Perry County residents file lawsuit.

Before the Alabama Dept. of Environmental Management can rule on the permit application for a landfill in Perry County, residents have files a lawsuit to stop the process. The suit alleges legal procedure problems with how the Perry County Commission went about notifying the public of the landfill application. The suit is seeking to void the Perry County Commission’s resolution that granted Perry County Associates governmental approval to build and operate the landfill. Even though notice for the public hearing was published in the Selma Times-Journal, the suit states it was supposed to be published in the Marion Times Standard 30 days prior to the public forum held concerning the application. Apparently one dump in Perry County (Uniontown) is enough for them.
Here's the public notice sent out. (http://www.adem.state.al.us/PublicNotice/Nov/11Perry.htm)
