Another girl’s organization gets robbed.
As first reported by our own stickman: The Dixie Youth league, more specifically the girl’s softball league, is out $8,000. According to Demopolis Police, the theft occurred over a 2-year period. According to our own reports, the “suspect” in question was given an opportunity to repay the money to avoid further legal action. Possibly public exposure of the crime has forced police to do their job in this case. Demopolis police state that before an arrest can be made, they need to determine whether or not “there was a contract between the softball league and [the suspect].” Police would not comment on who this person is, or when he/she would be arrested, if they do make an arrest. If charged, the suspect would face 2 – 20 years on prison, plus restitution. According to anonymous sources, the person in question is also said to have taken money from other organizations as well, including some involved with COTR.
County Courthouse is a dump.
The Marengo County Commission will hold a special session on Tuesday, May 20th, 2003 to discuss the dilapidated condition of the county courthouse located in Linden. District Judge Wade Drinkard stated, “The phone system is totally antiquated. The heating and cooling system has been totally antiquated for a number of years now. The roof has been ready to fall on everybody’s head. We almost burned the courthouse down a week ago.” According to Drinkard, a fire started in Circuit Clerk Rusty Nichols’ office when the contacts on an extension cord and surge protector got so hot the melted. According to Probate Judge Cindy Nielson, her office ceiling has collapsed in her office. The records in the probate office are no backed up in any form, so a fire would mean the total loss of all probate records. Money seems to be the major issue in renovating the old building. How about moving the courthouse from the “county seat” to Demopolis? We just obtained two very nice building that could house it. If Goodloe couldn’t walk across the street to the courthouse, he’d probably retire.
