I was reading Dave's post for this week concerning Denny "Rescue Rabbit" Baynham with great interest. This accident he caused comes as no great suprise to me. I have been predicting something like this to happen for a long time. Actually, I figured he would have killed someone when he did it though. Not this time, but it's coming.
So, is "Rescue Rabbit" a hero or a zero? Let ol' Stickman take some time to elaborate on the value of Denny "Rescue Rabbit" Baynham's contributions to society.
As long as I've known Denny "Rescue Rabbit" Baynham, he's been what most folks consider an ambulance chaser. He started out with police scanners chasing police, fire, & ambulance activity wherever it happened. Rescue Rabbit (he gave himself this nickname) was a prime suspect in the theft of a drug box and a trauma box off of a Marengo Ambulance unit at BWWMH back in 1988, but the investigation of the theft was never pressed and he was never charged or convicted of this theft. Rescue Rabbit has also been apprehended not once, but twice for stealing money from an aunt & uncle before being convicted of felony theft. He has since been charged with felon in possession of a firearm (handgun) as well as harassment of several teenage school girls under the age of 16. One tennage girl's father even beat Rabbit's vehicle with a baseball bat for continuing to harass his daughter. He buys alcohol and cigarettes for these underage girls hoping to "score". Rescue Rabbit has been seen on numerous occassions "playing police officer" by pulling people over in his personal vehicle with blue light & siren, racing dangerously to emergency calls in his personal vehicles with "emergency lights & siren" that he had no business responding to until Charles Tucker and Marengo Rescue Squad took him under their wing. Rescue Rabbit has even made the front page of the Goodloe rag in his "Sgt. Baynham SuperHero Security" uniform that closely resembles a police uniform (most of the general public cannot distinguish him from a police officer when he's in full drag). Worst of all, law enforcement at all levels (city, county, & state) have not been able to permanently stop Rescue Rabbit from this behavior.
I have witnessed Rescue Rabbit personally on many occassions responding to or operating at various emergency scenes. While I must admit, he is good help as a "go-fer" (go fer this and go fer that), manning a fire hose, or directing traffic, he isn't much use for anything else. Rabbit has no formal law enforcement training nor is he eligible for it with his felony conviction.. He is a convicted felon. He has NO medical training nor is he eligible for licensure as an EMT regardless of any training he could ever hope to receive because of his felony conviction. He doesn't even know CPR. Denny is useless as tits on a boar hog at medical emergencies except for being a "go-fer". He has had NO formal training or certifications in Emergency Vehicle Operations. I really can't see how he got to be a member of the Marengo Rescue Squad with his felony conviction. Besides that, most all emergency personnel in the county know about Denny Baynham and his escapades. Personally, I don't want him to touch me or even come near me if I need medical attention or my house is on fire, and he's the last person I want responding to my aid for police type matters.
I have complained to police officers, sheriff's deputies and a former sheriff, state troopers, fire department personnel, E-911 administration, and others for years trying to get Rescue Rabbit stopped before someone got hurt. I have cancelled him responding to emergency calls for other agencies when Marengo Rescue Squad was not even dispatched to respond on more than one occassion when I was working at Marengo County E-911. I even sent a letter to Captain Charles Tucker about his behavior and dangerous driving trying to get it stopped. I will post a copy of the letter I sent to Charles Tucker here in this forum in the next day or so for everyone to read.
My advice to the parents of the kids in the SUV injured by this "hero" who was informed his assistance was not needed at the first wreck is this:
Get yourselves a lawyer and sue Denny Baynham, Marengo Rescue Squad, Charles Tucker (individually and as Captain of Marengo Rescue Squad), the City of Linden, Linden Police Department, Marengo County Sheriff's Department, and the Alabama Department of Public Safety (State Troopers) for the injuries and damages your children sustained from being hit by Dangerous Denny "Rescue Rabbit" Baynham. Ask for millions and millions of dollars. There are plenty of witnesses you can call, newspaper documentation, and legal records you can dig up to get you a sure fire win in court on this lawsuit. Call me, I'll testify on your behalf! Maybe this way we can stop this fool before someone gets KILLED!
Denny "Rescue Rabbit" Baynham: Hero or Zero?
In my book....definitely a ZERO!
